Hiya
I am being a donated a sofa by my sis but I am unsure if it will fit through my front door.
The door frame is 77cm wide and the sofa diagonal measurement (width) is 117cm.
I am really not sure how to work it out.
Thanks in advance.

How big is her front door? It went in once and it has to come out.
Most sofas fit through standard openings (without the cushions etc).
Good luck;)0 -
The sofa is in storage and her house was very modern. However my house in 100 years old with an illegal porch (the previous owners had no planning permission).
I am baffled as to what measurements I need to take before I hire a van (its coming from Plymouth th Southampton).:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0 -
You can get sofas dismantled outside and re-assembled inside. This is a professional and will cost from 90GBP upwards.
There is no magic in getting a sofa through a door. If it is wider than the door and it wont stand on its side then you are stuffed I think.0 -
I'm not that big (yet
)
Seriously, will it be worth your while to take a window out? If that's not too small by the way?0 -
Oh sofa, I'm so glad that you replied! You've sprung to mind every time I've read this thread! Horrible images of trying to get you through the door.
Think I'll go to bed now, before I need a spade to dig myself out of this one.0 -

Everytime I see Sofa, soba, and fat ar*e, I'm there too Pink
Unfortunately, or fortunately, I can fit through most doors
, but I watch a lot of daytime tv - hence my reply about the window. That's what they do, although I've never seen the outside of the window when they've done it this way
I'll keep you informed when you get up. (The shovel's under the pillow btw)

Well I am going to brave it and hope for the best. I have no idea how to take a window out but hopefully it will not come to that.:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0

Have you got sash type windows?
If so, with another pair of hands, pliers & a hammer n nails, you'll be able to get it in there, if the door isn't wide enough.
Have a look at the window, if you're not sure what to do, ask again. It'd be worth checking BEFORE delivery...& the wind n rain n snow n fog n hail thats forcast, on the day you're moving it!!

what you do is
tip the sofa up on end and put the back through the door first then swivvel the base round through the door
or what kind of back door do you have????0 -
Yes in general most sofas go through most doors
If the sofa isn't loner tha the door is high then stand it on its end and swivel it through the door. You sort of rotate it around the door post
(very bad diagram follows)

Its difficult to explain but easy once you've done it
(The porch could be a prblem though)TANSTAAFL !0
