real-time quotes

folks, i know this has been asked of many times before, but i have something specific to ask. I need free real-time charts of ftse 100 companies (specifically the miners) but with candlesticks, not just a line chart.

ADVFN is no joy (although I do like their charts), as they kick you out after 1 min of activity (you have to pay for premium service).

digitallook is excellent: i am using it now but unfortunately it does not offer the option for candlesticks on real-time (only a line chart). Like i say, i do like it, but I need candlesticks. I would really appreciate any ideas/suggestions.

Thanks kindly folksicon_smile.gif

I thought streaming quotes from ADVFN were free, wouldn't really call 1 minute streaming, stretching the definition a little. I'll have a look round, it's a question that comes up a lot, but since there is a market for the data it's not that common to find it for free.

thanks TT. yeah, advfn would be ideal (nice charts with candlesticks, real-time) but kicked out after a minute. DigitalLook is excellent, but no candlestick charts (only line) available real-time. This is what i'm using so far, but really need candlesticks for timing of entry/close positions:)

Is it just the charts that kick out or does the price quotes kick out also?

Ok, yes I see from their help page http://www.advfn.com/Help/streaming-queries-276.html
they operate a rotating queue. Didn't you say you spreadbet, do they not provide data charts etc

Who do you spreadbet through, I've been looking recently, to see if I could put some slightly longer term futures trades through a spreadbet shop as it's tax free. Don't know if it's feaseable as I've read so much bad press against SB's compared to DMA, anyway I digress, one of the Co's I looked at was GFT, they have a pretty good platform 360 Dealbook which is a downloadable program, it seems to have a reasonable charting capability, might be worth a look.

IG Index: very happy with them, and been with them over two yrs. sorry, dma?? the only dma i know is 'daily moving average' LOL. No, I won't change companies; i've heard so many complaints about some SBs, and I have no complaints against IG. What I do require is candlestick charting (real-time). :)

Sorry DMA = Direct Market Access as in Interactive Brokers.
I got into trading through the brokerage route, didn't even know what spreadbetting was until a few yaers ago, although the tax free idea is obviously attractive, like you I've just read too much bad press / opinion / experiences, callit whatever about SB companies particularly in relation to daytrading that I have stayed with the brokerages.
Getting back to charts though, I will keep an eye out for anyone talking about free stuff, but I'd imagine it's very limited since data, particularly real time costs the provider in exchange fees.
Only other thing I can think of is if GFT was capable of providing what you need you could open an account and use their data / charting and still trade through IG.

Best bet might be to ask on one of the trading forums such as Trade2Win and or Elite Trader
