Calling a mobile abroad (from the UK).
I've been asked to look around and see if any networks have a bolt on or something that allows you to call a mobile phone in Spain from your mobile in the UK without charging the earth?
My cousins just moved out there, and my Uncles using his o2 contract phone (he has no land line) and he's basically paying £50 an hour to call. Which in turn means some monthly bills are over £200. Surely there's got to be a cheaper way?
I've emailed O2 to ask if there's a bolt on, but I thought I'd ask here while I wait for an answer. Thanks.

With O2's International Traveller Service, £2.99 a month on some contracts, or included on those above £30 or so a month, calls to Spanish mobiles will be 17 pence a minute. Or use callthrough access with an ordinary area code access number, which uses inclusive minutes and will cost from about 8 or 10 pence a minute (see MSE Callchecker)
But there's a potentially cheaper option. Use an O2 UK SIM for the phone in Spain, with the Chosen Country - Spain add-on. For a £5 a month, incoming calls are free (outgoing 25p/min). Then use either the O2 inclusive minutes to call it, or get a separate O2 Pay & Go SIM with the Your O2 Numbers add-on, costing £5 a month for up to 1000 minutes a month to favourite O2 numbers0 -
Not sure about Spain, but in other countries (e.g. Germany, Japan, Switzerland) I have used my ekit SIM. It has a UK mobile number (so can be called using UK inclusive minutes) and no charge for incoming calls when in those countries. Outgoing texts, calls etc are not too bad either. Works in most countries - you just have to be careful that in some countries they charge for incoming and it can be a bit expensive (e.g. Hong Kong).0

Cheaper to get a landline at that rate.
Three will do you unlimited (fair use: 3000 minutes) calls to Spain for £15 a month on their International Saver.0 -
If you get a Free Orange PAYG Sim http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/simevent/searchfreesim?WT.mc_id=ConFreGeAdd_0984

Thanks for the replies. I'll pass on the info, the three and orange deals definitely look good. Wonder if orange do that deal on pay monthly phones, think I'll give them a call and ask, his contract with o2 finishes next month.Sigless0
