Asda good, for all round cheap basics.Lidl good for fruit and veg cheap, quality of this can be very average, but wouldn't eat their meat.Morrisons, famous for selling lots of unhealthy bogofs.Tesco, use them online for a change from asda ocasionally.

Aldi's prices have gone up too much for me to shop there now.I can get a lot of branded stuff cheaper at morrisons and farmfoods:D I used to shop solely at Aldi every week for about 10 years, but they are taking the pee with prices now, using the cheap fruit and veg as a sweetener for new customers

Lidl meat and poultry is very good - though we do buy mostly from local butchers and market and only use Lidl for this occasionally.

The fruit and veg at our local Lidl is very good - will buy from here when at the right price and not gone to the market, however fruit and veg from Lidl seems to vary on your location.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • I am finding I can get more 'basic' i.e. the very cheap brand from Sainsbury's rather than Tesco. I went to a big Tesco and could not see many of the basic (whatever they call it )range whereas I could get plenty from a smaller Sainsbury's - I got loads of pasta. When I am skint - there is always pasta and tinned chopped tomatoes!

Iceland is ok but not much veggie stuff fr me (I mean the packaged stuff) and I hate their potatoes - I don't know if it is how they store them but they were never nice - damp and sweet. A friend recommends Morrisons. I went to Netto - the first time for years and years and qs quite impressed at the bag loads I got for £11 - loads of tins of various beans and suchlike. Haven't been able to beat Sainsburys on cheap spaghetti though. The nearest Lidl and Aldi is too far away really but I sometimes stock up when at my mum's.

Have you tried www.mysupermarket.co.uk - they;re really good for working out the cheapest out of Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose but sadly don't include Lidl, Aldi etc.

I use morrisons, tescos, aldi and farmfoods on a kind of ad hoc basis.I have noticed the prices of aldis own stuff nearly being the same as branded names in morrisons though:rolleyes:

Ok, I've just taken a look at the bank balance and it ain't looking pretty at the moment. So I have to try and make a conscious effort to save money on my shopping (weekly shop usually costs £100). I am not a fussy eater, however I do insist on some things - hovis/warburtons bread, decent quality meat etc....
So which do we all think is the best alround supermarket?? Usually shop at Tesco's/Morrisons cause of distance but am willing to travel a little further afield (also sounds crazy I know but if I go in a different direction I.E to Boston, petrol is sooooo much cheaper!!)
I am a get it all in one shop kind of person!!

Hi I always go to Asda and take all the leaflets from the other stores which come through my door, because when you get to the till you can ask for price match on any item in the leaflets and Asda will honour the cheaper price hope this helps
