Aldi/Lidl/Tesco/Asda ??? Which would you choose??

Ok, I've just taken a look at the bank balance and it ain't looking pretty at the moment. So I have to try and make a conscious effort to save money on my shopping (weekly shop usually costs £100). I am not a fussy eater, however I do insist on some things - hovis/warburtons bread, decent quality meat etc....
So which do we all think is the best alround supermarket?? Usually shop at Tesco's/Morrisons cause of distance but am willing to travel a little further afield (also sounds crazy I know but if I go in a different direction I.E to Boston, petrol is sooooo much cheaper!!)
I am a get it all in one shop kind of person!!

We go to Tescos, have been making use of the coupons and saving quite a bit recently, though am getting a bit tired of getting problems everytime I try to use the coupons and have been thinking myself of trying Aldi. Never been there before, but have heard the wines are good but I dont know anything else about the food. Tesco home brands are excellent but Ive noticed our bill has increased tremendously in the past couple of months, so if anyone has info on Aldi, I should be interested.

We use Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Asda and others also Iceland, Heron, Farm Foods, local butchers (we have several) local green-grocers (we have several) and Birmingham food market for meat, fish, poultry, game etc and fruit and veg market.

Lidl and Aldi food is mostly excellent, maybe one or two items that you might not like.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

RE: Hovis bread. In the West Midlands British Bakeries which make Hovis do all the supermarket own label bread.

Hovis White is the same identical loaf as the shops Premium White, same for the wholemeal, Danish (Nimble) and others. Yes the exact same loaves come out of the oven come down the conveyor belt and then randomly get shunted off to the various bagging machines which put the wrappers on be it a Hovis wrapper, Sainsbury's wrapper, Tesco, Asda etc etc.

    Motherspride is the standard loaves.

Similar happens around the country, however some parts use other bakeries and therefore the supermarket loaves are from that supplier of the brand, hence a Tesco Premium loaf bought in the Midlands could taste totally different to one bought in East Scotland.

Iceland are only good value on some items, many are over-priced, some of the lower-cost items are now not nice.

  • Asda was cheaper than tesco last week in my area but Tesco are now getting cheaper than asda this week.

Morrisons have better than half price offers on.

    Swings and roundabouts really.

All shops are within a 10 minute drive from me so I can pick the best offers.
  • We went to asda today and still managed to whip up a bill of £135!!!
I know that every time I go into big supermarkets I always spend more than I should and buy stuff I don't need.
Next weeks challenge is to get in car and go to Aldi without kids/husband for distraction purchases!!!
I'm getting the vibe that Aldi is the better budget choice????

Look out for the "News Of The World" tomorrow and next Sunday as they will be repeating the spend £30 save £5 voucher promotion redeemable in Tesco:money:
