So it'll be able to display ultra high definition then ;)

(already being developed and BBC shown interest in)

make it 8 year proof, those ultra def screens are huge, I think it would replace my lounge window.
I expect that by the time the bbc broadcasts ultra def as standard I will be in a box six feet under with a limited view of anything.

He didn't specify how far in the future, if its still top spec in 6 weeks, then technically its been future proof :)

The BBC can't even really broadcast in HD yet, so I don't think they should be thinking of something that's perhaps a decade in advance just yet ;)

"Future proof" is itself indefinite so nothing is future proof unless it is specified. :p

    Mortgage-free Glee!
went to an independent retailer yesterday, who were very helpful, endeavored to use idiot talk as much as possible so I could understand - so chatted about the plasma v lcd, the v& box, blu-ray & hdd

my thoughts so far is that we are gonna get the v& & make do with our dvd player at the mo, until such time we'll get a blu-ray

as far as the TV is concerned its between a Panasonic 42"plasma TH-42PX80B or a
    Sony LCD V series 40" KDL-40V4000

any further thoughts would be appreciated

You will not be disappointed with the TH42 PX80B, we have the 37px and the picture is lovely on freeview and sky. Also have new surround here, which upscales dvds (connected to sky+ via optical cable for sound, tv to DVD via HDMI cable for picture, sky+ to tv via scart)
Many reviews on telly at AVforums and Whathifi.
    ENJOY!!!
  • when the salesman put on the same channel on 2 tv's side by side, one plasma & one lcd I prefered the plasma picture, but as far as any techno terms go I'm a non-starter !

I guess nothing is future proof, if time is infinite......a bit like this....

"It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination."
