and it is a FACT about the size!! otherwise the experts wouldn't say it!
There's a large difference between fact and opinion. That's an opinion no matter how qualified the person is who says it.
As for play.com I've never had problems with DVDs etc. But to date I don't know a single person personally who hasn't had major problems when buying anything much more substantial from them. And relying solely on credit card chargebacks is rather risky. I'd rather at least have the sale of goods act and distance selling regulations on my side etc which cover an awful lot more than what your credit card company will cover you for.
And as for the freeview thing, my point was that there's no such thing as future proof. And yes there are such TVs with integrated HD satellite. Panasonic do them for a start."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

why buy a machine (xbox360) when HD DVD is no longer going to be made BLU RAY IS THE FUTURE for now anyway
Because there are games on the xBox 360 that are not available on the PS3. I suppose no one should buy a Wii because it isn't Hi-Def at all. :rolleyes2
And as pointed out, the xBox 360 only plays HD-DVDs via an add on. I don't think it's too unlikely that we'll see a BluRay drive coming out in the near future.0 -
If I was buying a new TV and didn't have satellite or cable, I'd be inclined to consider a model with freesat tuner built-in, like the new Panasonic Vieras. I have a Panasonic 42" plasma and it's a really nice model.
I'd also recommend looking at Richer Sounds' website, and signing up to their email newsletter to see if there are any promotional offers - I saved £100 on an already low price when I bought."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

somehow i think that is very unlikely to happen!!microsoft actually using something they didn't want to be beaten on....mmmmh would be interesting thoIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Considering that Microsoft have discontinued production of the HD-DVD drive, I think it's almost certain that they'll produce a BluRay replacement.0

blacksheep - for the difference in picture quality for standard def tv, it is pointless paying twice as much for a telly. MIL has an expensive samsung, and the quality is not £3-400 better than mine. And with a HD input - as I said, it's grand. It seems that there is a lot of snobbery involved still within the consumer electronics sector, but if you would rather waste £400 of your money, it's your perogative. It's not right or wrong, just your view and I'll respect that. The OP was on a budget, though, so the cheaper end of the market should not be overlooked.
I am in no hurry to go HD yet (apart from PS3 and xbox360), by the time everything is made and broadcast in HD prices of equipment will have come way down anyway....any guesses on how long it'll take anyone ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
If you do your homework play.com is probably one of the BEST internet order sites going....and you are covered just buy with a credit card!!!
It's not always the cheapest though, it pays to look. Dixons were the cheapest for my tv by over £30!the xbox360 only upscales to 720 and not 1080p like the PS3 and why buy a machine (xbox360) when HD DVD is no longer going to be made BLU RAY IS THE FUTURE for now anyway
Wrong, the xbox 360 when connected to a tv via HDMI or VGA will upscale to 1080p.And the reason i said get a PS3 was because it has the BEST Blu ray player for the price and seeing as HD DVD is no longer a contender whats the point of a xbox360 (buy a HD TV and enjoy the HD feature with Blu ray)
Movie playback is only one aspect of the console, it's primarily a games machine. If you have a 360 then you can pick up the HD DVD Drive for next to nothing and there's over 300 titles that you can get with the majority of them less than a fiver, that's a real bargain!0 -

i stand corrected on the xbox360 so thank you but why would i buy a dying dvd format i might aswell get vhs as i can pick them up for a quid....if your going to buy the latest TV why not buy the latest player aswell??? kinda makes sense than buying something that is dead or dyingIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

HD DVD & Blueray are near identical picture quality. Your analogy with VHS doesn't work because it's not the same quality, so I'm not really sure what you're hinting at with it. I was saying for bargains now on films it's ideal if you have an xbox 360, for example HD DVD Goodfella's is £4.49 and on Blueray it's £17.99.0 -
I've got some Betamax tapes if anyone wants them! :rotfl:0
