Sky is to knock £99 off the price of its Sky HD satellite TV set-top box, reducing the price of the hardware from £249 to £150.
It's hard to see the decision not motivated by the arrival of Freesat and its free-to-air HD offering, but whatever Sky's reasons, the move will see installation cost new subscribers £30 - upgraders have to pay £60.
To get the HD channels, you'll need to cough up for a tenner-a-month package - down from £16 a month.
The price reduction will be accompanied by a small name change: the box will become Sky+ HD, the better to tie it in with Sky's current standard-definition DVR offering, not to mention all the Sky+ advertising it's doing at the moment.
Sky's HD line-up includes Freesat stalwart BBC HD, but also Channel 4 HD, in addition to HD versions of Sky's own SkyOne, SkyMovies, SkyArts and SkySports, plus Discovery, National Geographic and the Hitler Channel... sorry... History Channel - must be all the many World War II documentaries it runs...
The Sky HD price cut comes into force next month

Its still not a very good offer IMO, they are offering Sky HD boxes for £99 recently, they really need to scrap the £10 sub which you have to pay to get the HD channels0

If it wasn't for the silly £10 p/m charge I would have upgraded a long time ago, I'm sure many more sky customers are holding off upgrading as it isn't really worth paying that money to watch a few of the same channels in better picture quality imo.0

The price of Sky HD seems to vary depending on where you take the offer up. Some places charge £49 for the HD box while I'm sure the Sky stand in town offers it free on some of the packages.

Wow. I didnt even know you had to pay an extra tenner a month for the HD Channels.
I dont understand why loyal customers are charged more for installation. I understand the need for good introductory offers to attact new customers, but the good offers should be shared:(:(0

I would gladly pay to get one of those sleek black boxes with the big hard drive but i won't pay the £10 a month,as soon as they drop that i will get one.0

Me too, they really do shoot themselves in the foot, don't they? The full package is dear enough, they must rake in millions so i am sure they can afford not to charge another £10.I suppose it will come eventually.0

When was it £16 a month? I've had it nearly 2 years and it has always been £10 a month? From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

i think OP was saying that the £16 a month basic package is being reduced to £10 a month?0

            Ahh, thanks Ian, I misunderstood.
So it will be £10 a month to get BBC HD which is free if you don't have a Sky sub, (but the £10 will not get ITV HD as that's only on FreeSat)
and £20 a month just to get Skyone on HD, or £53 for both Movies and Sport HD.From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings
