    Mortgage-free Glee!
I you buy gold sovereigns, there are no capital gains or VAT - they're classed as currency.

I knew a bloke who bought 1 sov each month when he was working, then cashed thm in whenever he needed the money in retirement. Gold always keeps pace with inflation.

Though if you buy them in bulk they are cheaper.

Not always. From early 80's to just after the turn of the century, gold lost hand over fist to inflation.

    Good morning! :)

Wow, I can't believe how awake I feel - Natasha slept all night, and Ryan is at my Mum and Dads, so I have actually had enough sleep. :T

Although if it's a choice between having Ryan here and having sleep, I would rather have the little insomniac monkey back home, because I'm missing him like mad. :o

My sharesave is looking rubbish, so not much hope of a quick sale of shares. I think I might have to wait a bit. Because things aren't quite as critical as last year, we can manage to hold on for a bit, and see how the share price looks in a few weeks if necessary. I don't like being patient though! :p

So, in the meantime, we need to make this month as cheap as possible, so we can afford to relax a little bit on holiday - we go in 3 weeks, did I mention that? :D

I've just done a quick list of what food we have, and I think we can survive without going to the supermarket this week. My Abel & Cole order has arrived this morning, and although I wouldn't be able to spend that much on a small box of fruit & veg on a regular basis, it was well worth the 95p (net, after Quidco cashback) I have spent on it this time!

    We have got:

    4 bananas
    5 apples
    4 potatoes
some redcurrants (what on earth do I do with those??)
    2 courgettes
    4 carrots
    1 avocado

We already have a few bits of fresh veg to use up too, so our 'No supermarket this week' meal plan is looking like this:

Today - Quorn (chicken style pieces), peppers and blackbean sauce with rice
Wednesday - Tuna pasta bake (with hidden courgettes)
Thursday - Acapulco chicken and rice
Friday - Quorn or beef burgers, chips, peas (mmm, healthy.....)
Saturday - Sausage casserole and mini yorkshire puddings

I don't suppose anyone knows the cooking instructions for Aunt Bessies Yorkshire puddings, do they? They were at the back of the freezer, without a packet. They're the ones that are just frozen mixture in a foil 'bun case', so they need cooking rather than just warming through like the ready made ones do.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Hi Snags

Aunt Bessies are just popped into a hot oven from frozen (can't remember exact temperature...I just ramp it up to about 200-220C) for 15-20 mins (or if like me you don;t know the exact temperaure.... until they are done). :D

Mealplan sounds yummy......redcurrants can be eaten fresh in a fruit salad but might be a bit bitter. Alternatively stewed with a bit of sugar to tste to make a compote (posh word..and can then be frozen) to put on ice cream, cheesecake, sponge base etc or used to flavour youghurts, home made ice cream, jelly etc. Great as fake blood if your kids like gory meals:rotfl:

    Have a good day...

    Love

Just done a quick comparison of the Abel and Cole veg and the same weights of the Asda produce (non-organic) I would usually have bought. Asda didn't have redcurrants on their website, so I substituted blueberries (nearest I could find), although to be honest, I wouldn't have bought blueberries either, I would probably have chosen strawberries or grapes.

The Asda list comes to £5.94, so £5 cheaper. I do like the idea of having organic veg delivered to my door, and I felt really tempted to place another order, but having seen it costs more than double, I know we can't afford it.
