If I spend ages bending over my new raised bed with my nose pressed to the soil searching for signs of life, nothing grows and I will get a bad back. If I go do something else, everything starts sprouting in the blink of an eye :rotfl:

I've learnt that I didn't need to sow that whole packet of black cherry tomatoes 'just in case'

My very first year I sewed the whole packet of tomatoes!! And didn't realise that 1 seed = 1 plant not 1 seed = 1 tomatoe!! :o:o:o
  • Cats LOVE sweetcorn seedlings, note to self do not plant these on the cat's favourite windowsill - it really galls me buying sweetcorn but I love it too!
comping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:
  • I have learnt:

don't grow yellow carrots cos hubby won't eat veg that are the "wrong colour"!!!!!

only grow things that you're going to eat - no-one actually likes tomatoes that much - ended up not even picking them!

plant things at the right time - got tomatoes and peppers not ripening!!

grow things near the door - kept forgeting to water the veggies on the decking at the top of garden through laziness!

cucumber plants get really big - mini greenhouse turned into cucmber house - no room for anything else!

NOTHING tastes better than what you've picked out of your own garden!:T
