I’ve learnt not to sow whole packets of seed, and to save some for the following year, or for sharing/swaps:A

This is my first year growing veggies, I’m normally a flower person:p but with prices rising and nasty chemicals, I decided to give it a go. I’m growing lots of variety in my first year which I think is a mistake, and some of it like green and purple caulis I’ve grown for fun:o

Next year I will be more practical, and concentrate on the staples. More spuds, onions, carrots etc

Oh, and I’ll make sure things are well staked, and tied in:eek:
How about you?

I have learnt to bring my cherished pots of seedlings inside for the night when it is chilly. Nothing has actually died but some of the leaves of the courgettes and tomatoes went whitish and ir has obviously been too cold for them.

I have learnt to be moe economical with my planting of seeds and spacing issues so i maximise the space I have. I also want to succession plant so spacing comes into that.

I also always run short of compost.

I also need to plan more for next year and generally throughout the year so I understand growing seasons for different veg etc

    Yes, I am a newbie and hadn't a clue but I am learning :o

I think the best thing I've learned is, "never be afraid to ask." Most keen gardeners are very generous when it comes to knowlege, and might even throw in the odd plant or cutting or seeds.
Also never be afraid to try something, even if you get it wrong you can always try again.....:D

Well I’m not exactly a beginner as I’ve been growing something since I was about 9 like tomatoes, sunflowers etc (you know the easy little things that parents help their children with when they cost a bomb to buy that for hehehe). It is however my 1st year to have a proper vegetable patch and not just in pots that we had hanging around that were big enough.
I think I’ve learnt to make sure that I have EVERYTHING I need before I start lol. That I can use the conservatory as a greenhouse as it simulates one very well being mostly glass J . That I do need more compost no matter what I think (I'm glad I'm not the only one there to be honest) and that I need to remember the last time I feed the plants so I remember when to feed them again.
I’ve found it all to be fun though and I’ve already been able to eat some of it and it was SOO good hehe.

I've learned not to get drunk and bet my mates that I can grow the biggest pumpkin.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

The amount you grow always exceeds the space available and that whatever size greenhouse you get its always too small.
