I currently use AVG 8.0, Windows Defender (which should come with ur spanky new laptop
) Adaware 2007, Spybot and ............thats it 
Ive never had any problems with it at all matey oh and plus i use the windows firewall while not the best it does me
(although u may need a better one if ur looking at dodgy p0rn sites

The software i use most regularly is:
CCleaner - removes temp files and searches and cookies etc
Zonealarm - free firewall
AVG - antivirus
I used to use Adaware, but this is no longer supported

I use Sygate firewall, Avg virus scanner, Spybot S&D, Ccleaner and Advance Windows Care. I don't use the Windows firewall on XP as it is not (in my opinion) as good as other types.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

I ran my system without any antivirus fine for ages thanks to this little gem. 256MB Ram isn't quite enough if you want to do other things besides run some antivirus programs
