Are there any plans to put back the last 500 posts at the bottom of the chat forums page?

whilst my priority is to have the 500 posts facility back...as this is how i use the chat forum .. glancing through them 2 or 3 times a day ....
the last few days ... it's been impossible most times even to get the site to show 30 or 40 recent posts without the dreaded "not responding" screen.
Trying to use this facility is becoming so much of a chore .. with these problems happening with boring regularity ... again gives me the feeling that i should have better things to do with my life than get stressed and wasting so much time trying.
The funs gone out of trying to support this site.0 -
Has it still stopped working - we thought it was getting better?Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

sorry but can't waste my life any more !!0 -
Considering its an email day I think the site is running pretty well today. I use Firefox and when the site is running a bit slow I open up several tabs and then just check a thread when it has loaded, leaving the other tabs to load.
If using the 500 last posts annoys you so much why don't you find another method of viewing the site? Personally I go the boards that interest me most and check the threads that I have an interest in. I can't be bothered reading all the posts on the last posts facility as most of them would have little interest to me.0 -
Please can we have the last 500 posts back.
Back to work this week and frightened I am going to miss some bargain or moneysaving tip.
Been on hols this week, and the only time I have had problems using this facility is between 1 and 2 pm,must be all the workers logging on at lunchtime.
Please Please Please can we have it back.0 -
fed up calling again !! .
5 times out of 10 today trying to get even "30 recent posts" let alone the 200 ..or the 500 like angela mentions is what i really need ... and get the dreaded "NOT RESPONDING" screen.
Don't know what the techie guys have been changing over these last couple of weeks but it's certainly spoilt it for me.0 -
Same here. I always used the '500 recent posts'. By using this 3 or 4 times a day, I was able to scan every post in the forums very easy.
Was dismayed when this reduced to 200, since this can be generated in just an hour or so at busy times.
But now, I can't even get THAT to work :-(
I haven't looked at the site for about a week or so now, since without the 'recent posts' capability, it's not user-friendly at all. I couldn't be bothered, looking into ALL the forums and reading all the messages there - it would take AGES.
So much more easy to scan the latest 500 posts and if any catches my interest, I open the full thread into a new window for a detailed read. It's how I (and I suspect MANY) people use the MSE site.
As I said, without the functionality, I just don't use the site, unless I'm looking for a particular item, in which case I use the 'search' facility. Talking of which - that doesn't seem to work either! I suspect it's only when the search returns a lot of items, then it bombs out. If there are only a few items returned they tend to get displayed.
Are there any plans to get these problems fixed?

OK Folks.
Let me be plain here. Yabb is being scrapped. I have already spoken to Brendan and said we need new software to drive these boards as it can't cope. At the moment we're researching what the best alternative is and how we go about installing and converting from Yabb - plus trying to timetable the change over.
In the meantime, all the changes are emergency ones. Even with what we have done to search it is sometimes breaking down. There's not much we can do about it other than what we have done.
When search is working it is still possible to view 500 posts, just go to the Search button at the top of the page. Click the boards you want (or all boards) and then enter a blank space in the search box, change the number of posts being searched for to what ever you need and you should be able to get the posts.
However a favour - if the search crashes, don't just keep retrying it - that'll drain the resources of the site. Take a break and try later, if you keep repeat trying it'll make it worse.
Im deliberately only telling people hidden within this thread. Knowing this trick is a priviledge for regulars, hence why i know if i say 'don't keep clicking as that'll hurt the site' you'll look after it.

Even with the glitches on here it's still a hundred times better than some sites which bombard with pop-ups and have adverts all over the place.
I'm sure the creases will be ironed out soonJust run, run and keep on running!0 -
martin thank you for taking the time out to respond.
don 9999 response following mine was exactly my problems and sentiments ..he seems a little more patient than me !!
Really want to fully support and promote the site but have been getting really frustrated. As Don says .. not being able to get 500 posts makes the site far less useable for me as i glance through all the headings and read those appropiate .
I remember one of my first ever posts on this site was about how success could bring major problems and long term planning was essential .. etc etc.
I'm going to try now to get the 500 posts in the way you've mentioned .. didn't know about that ... hope i/m not back on here in 5 minutes moaning at you again !!..
( but it's with your interests at heart ).
Keep up the great work.0
