Why are some people on here being so smug?

I would love to be in a position to buy, but I was blooming glad I was in rented when the boiler packed up!0

I love living in my house as I have no rent or mortgage to pay (fortunate enough to have been able to pay it off). My OH never take anything for granted and do not feel smug about it. We appreciate everything we have worked hard for. We do however feel bad for others who have high mortgages etc within our family and are just thankful that we have been lucky enough to get ours paid off.0

living in this limbo is sometimes bloody grim. Might be better if DH and I were in proper rented together but we just want to save every penny...so we can be homeowners....
we are not going to be stupid to do so but its our aim. No smugness here!
I really like you...0 -
Each month you live in rented accom is another whole month away from owning your own home outright, Wheras even if you live in a house that is sliding in value each month you pay your mortgage is another month closer to owning your own home outright.
Thats the way I look at it
Since the likely price of my eventual home is probably going to be down at least 50k over the 2007 peak by end 2009, I feel that waiting a couple of years to buy will more than pay for itself.
Especially as I am adding to my savings and semi-decent interest rates are available from mainstream savings accounts.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

Well thanks again! I'm actually not so charming (I leave that to the husband who can charm extra baggage weight for free in the airport and everybody loves him) but I do try to be polite. I don't always succeed0 -
I'm renting at the moment but have started looking to buy as prices are falling and even more so in next 6 months apparently. So hoping to be a home owner soon although there isnt much out there at the moment,
Renting hasnt been to bad for me especially when things go wrong, hasnt cost me anything to get things fixed, But I do see it as throwing away money every month and would rather have my own home, do what I like with it and decorate it the way i want. Also some years down the line I can upgrade to somewhere bigger and betterComping again0 -
