zone 1 annual travelcard
Options
i just moved to king's cross and I work in tower hill. I just realized that even though I only need a zone 1 ticket, I would have to buy a zone 1 and 2 travel card. I don't need the zone 2. Does anyone know of a way for me to travel by tube within zone 1 without buying the ticket for zone 2? I am looking at an annual travelcard...

Surely the Oyster card will work out cheaper if you are making just that journey?0

There is no Zone 1 Travelcard anymore. Annual or otherwise.
Ken decided instead of increasing Zone 1 prices, he would just merge the Z1 and 2 together. Therefore there was no obvious price increase but a totally new product. Clever eh,Ex-Employee of a Train Operating Company.

Thanks for that ticketcolelctor. It looks like there is no loophole to get what I want so I just bought the zones 1 and 2 annual card.0

Note: annual tube travel cards give you a 1/3 off all national rail journeys. just flash your 'gold card' recipt you got when you bought the card, plus your tube pass when buying or travelling.0

For anyone else wondering what the cheapest thing to do is for your journey go to: http://www.mediauk.com/content/oyster-card-calculator.muk which tells you which is cheapest for you (pay daily, or annual etc)0

this is off topic but I was actually planning to get a 16-25 railcard but it looks like that wouldn't give me more benefit because of what you just stated about annual travel card. Can you confirm? btw, excellent link!0

So you paid £968?
With Oyster it would of been £705.
Well done.0 -

The gold card is only valid in London and the South East, but the 16-25 is valid nationwide.0 -
Yes. What you mean £705 with Oyster?
He didn't try to say that in a constructive way though.
Remember that whenever you travel by national rail in the South East region, you need to show your gold card, and ask for a "Boundary Zone 2" to XYZ ticket. This will be cheaper on two fronts - first of all, you'll only pay for the bit of the journey that doesn't cover into the central London station, and secondly you'll get 1/3 off (after 09:30 weekdays).0
