Brick Wall In Garden Can I Add A Fence Onto It?

JUst moving, garden has 4 foot brick fence either side, on my side for privacy (only been there once so far and the neighbours have 2 kids under 2 and the dad put his son over onto my kids trampoline with no nappy on to bounce:eek: can't have that, no privacy) can I put a 2 foot wooden fence on top of it to make sure that the kids cannot come over ever again?

Thought of trellis but the holes are too big, would take too long to grow plants to hide the trellis and have the privacy, the kids next door can and would put their hands through it, so back to wooden fence...

Anyone know how much it would cost? would need three panels of 6 foot length by 2 foot high and the connectors, who would I call to ask for a quote? A gardener? An odd job man? can the neighbours complain?

You could have the brick wall built higher - contact a local small builder.

AFAIK it is possible to have boundary walls/fences up to 2 metres at the back, 1 metre at the front.

    But, there is legislation: http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/planningandbuilding/partywall

This would apply even if you added a fence to the top of the wall.

We had a brick wall built between us and next door - it was something that my late husband first thought about before his death in 1992 and the idea has been on the back burner ever since. Last year we decided to have a fence replaced by a new brick wall, and although the neighbours were fine about it, we still did those letters as described in the booklet, link above.

If the wall is on your property its not a party wall, its yours.

You can add fence on no problem, you would just need some bolt on fence post supports along the length of the fence and at each end thats its, just bolt them onto the wall! The 2 foot fence can then be added to that, either featherboard or pre-made panels..

See Party Wall etc Act 1996 quoted above:

"A wall is also a “party wall” if it stands wholly on one owner’s land, but is used by
two (or more) owners to separate their buildings (see diagram 4)."
