The way I mealplan is I start by looking to see what meat/fish/etc I have in my freezer and cupboards, then I try and think of meals I can make from that, rather than having to buy more. I then make a list of what I need and just buy that. I find this way better than thinking of meals you'd like first and then making a list as you never get around to using what you already have if you do it that way. IYSWIM
I always try and have a good balance of meals through the week so each week I aim to have:
1x beef/minced beef eg spag bol/chilli/burgers/lasagne/...
1x pork/lamb eg meatballs/kebabs/sausages/chops/...
1or2 x chicken/turkey eg curry/wraps/sweet & sour/roast/...
1x cod/salmon eg fish pie/fishcakes/baked salmon/...
1x tuna eg tuna jacket potato/tuna pasta bake/tuna hash/...
1or2 x veggie eg 3bean chilli/egg & chips/jacket potato & beans/macaroni cheese/...
Before I used to do this I used to just eat a lot of chicken and mince
and no fish at all so this way is a lot healthier for me. I have a list of about 20 different meals I can make from each type of meat so I can get a lot of variety. And there are always loads of really good ideas on this thread
I also try and have 1x pasta, 1x rice, 1x jacket potato, etc each week too. I find that mealplanning this way means my weekly shopping always costs roughly the same amount and its really easy to just look at the list instead of struggling to think of what to make every day and not having the right ingredients to make what you want. hello Butterflybecks Welcome to MSE OS :hello:
This is the recipe I use for pizzas:angelnikki wrote: »Pizza Dough Recipe - makes 1 pizza
225g Strong Bread Flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp easy blend yeast
150ml warm water
1 tbsp olive oil
Mix the flour, salt & yeast together in a bowl
Add the water and olive oil and kneed until you have a smooth dough
Cover the bowl and allow to prove for at least 30 minutes
Knead again, then roll out, add toppings and bake Gas7/ 220C 20mins.
Can freeze the bases with/without toppings and cook from frozen (increase cooking time by about 5mins)
