I get the horrible Science Mags for my son and also bought the DK/Google Encyclopedia of Science.
There's a website and refence for every article and it explains just about everything in plain English
Don't forget the google scholar site Can be a bit complex sometimes but we use that as well.Noli nothis permittere te terere
