Virgin tying me to a contract !!

Options
After ringing Virgin Media last friday to see if I could get any discount (as we spennd upwards of £75 on TV , Mobiles , broadband etc) they gave me a discount of £4 (off my 3 for £30 bundle taking it to £26) .Not a lot I thought but some discount.
Yesterday I received a letter from VM saying that they hoped i would be ""over the moon with my new special offer ".Attached with it was a contract for 12 months , just to return and sign.
Should I tell them to put the £4 back on my bill and stuff the contract , while I look elsewhere or should I ring them and say how disapointed I am that they want to tye (?) me to a contract and ask for a proper discount ?

With the improved offers they seem to be offering 12 month terms with them now.

Look at it this way, if you're happy with the price then at least theres some form of obligation for the price to be kept at that (should it change you can leave the contract no problems).

Alternatively if you don't want to be tied down then just look elsewhere for the service :)

I think thats their standard at the moment to match sky's current offer of £16 + the BT phoneline of £10.50.

I origionally called them to get my phone taken off as I don't use it and thats what they offered me. At first I was chuffed then I thought about it and decided it wasn't worth it if it tied me into another year. Freeview and seperate broadband would save me £22. (Aside the £75 set up and hastle cancelling the mixes after 4 months)
I said I'd think about and then called back a day later and said that I had been shopping around and by addressing each of the better offers from and freeview I got some extra stuff and a good deal on V+, still for £30, tying me in for a year but this was

They will keep you waiting but just let them, wait for them to talk first and argue an opposition to their offer, sound enthusiastic and happy but reluctant.

They won't negeotiate regarding the mobiles as Virgin mobile are a seperate department and they don't have the authority.

Keep trying and push them as far as they'll go untill they say there really is nothing more they can do and then say you'll think about - make sure you take the persons name).

    Then you can decide.

they will want a tie-in of a year (at least) for any new deal they offer you.

I just phoned and they would reduced my bill to £32.50 (31.50 if i get e-billing) for:
extra-large tv (upgraded from my base pack)
    broadband (as i have now)
and talk mobile (25% off calls to mobiles).

Does this sound a good deal for a 12 month tie-in or should i be looking for more?

    thanks

Spoke to Virgin Media the other day to tell them to put the cost back up to £30 and to stick their contract !
The guy was really nice when I told him that I wasnt told of a contract to sign whenI rang for my £4 discount , he said that I should have had it explained to me then.He said he would keep my bill at £26 and would waive the contract , he gave me his name , tel. ext. and branch for future reference.
Seeing in the national press the same deal is for new customers for £27 including free wireless router (which I asked for as a freebie during original call) , should i contact Virgin again and ask for a wireless router for free ?

Be grateful that they are being quite open about it being a new contract, rather than giving you the deal and then trying to pass it off as a new contract.

In your position, I wouldn't sign, I would just write back and thank them for the £4-00 off and state that you regard this as a change of price to the existing contract. [Keep copies etc]. If they give you the £4-00, then OK and if they don't you can move.
