  • Regarding the 30gigs registration exploit.

Yes, it appears to work, but:
    1. The account might be seen to have been created illegally and then deleted without warning. Of course they are allowed to do this.
    2. You're creating an account through an untrusted third party who may (or may not) decide to keep your account details for future reference. I wouldn't treat the account I've just created (strangelyretarded@30gigs.com) as safe in the slightest.

As for the needs for 30 gigs of storage?
If you really have that much email your problem won't be storing it, it'll be managing and organising it. Learn to hit the delete key now and then, you just don't need at that rubbish!
If you're planning on using this space as an online archive bear in mind that there is absolutely no guarrantee the data's safe with these guys (or even gmail - but at least they have a name they want to keep unsullied!).

Well with gmail you aren't tied to an ISP either... This service is much like gmail, yahoo mail, hotmail etc.

Ok firstly how would it be created illegaly as people have gotten invites. This is how the Gmail system works as well. Secondly in terms of trust all you have to do is read their T's & C's

"If You Send Us Personal Information

If you choose to provide us with personal information by sending an e-mail to us, or by filling out a form (such as the signup form) with your personal information and submitting it through our website, we use that information to respond to your message and to help us get the information you have requested. We do not collect personal information for any other purposes. Moreover, we do not create individual profiles with the information you provide or give this information to any private organizations. Nor do we collect information for commercial marketing."

Simple! Come on guys stop making an argument out of it, if you want to use the service then use it, if you dont then dont. Fine your data may not be 100% safe but then neither is any email address around the world, so put the handbags away!

By the way anyone know much about this other Gmail company that is claiming rights to the Gmail name?

Sorry, I obviously wasn't clear enough. I was referring to the exploit mentioned in a previous post (which is why I prefaced my message with the text "Regarding the 30gigs registration exploit"). I was trying to alert people to the possible hidden dangers of using such an exploit.

I have no problem with the 30gigs service per se, but I stand by my remarks over the actual utility of having a 30GB mail store.
  • Hi,

If you have'nt heard yet theres no such thing a 'Gmail' in the UK it had to be changed to 'Google Mail' there has been a legal dispute for the name for months, and it is still going on.

    I know that.
You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.
