PS3 surround sound

I have just bought a PS3. I have a Panasonic home cinema kit. It is not wireless. Is there anyway I can connect the PS3 to it so I can have 5:1 surround sound ? Thanks for your help:T

All you need is an optical cable like this one assuming your surround sound accepts it.

Thanks for your answers. I think I have one of those wires. I shall have a look at the back of the home cinema kit. It is a SL-DT310.

I have have now got the cable and connected them together and no surround sound, nothing. I have changed the sound settings on the PS3 from HDMI to optical, so I am now stuck. Anybody got any further ideas?

Have you set the surround receiver to the optical input?

I'm assuming there's somewhere on your cinema system where you can select the source of the sound. DVD, aux, phono, optical, that sort of thing.

I have had a look and all I can see is TV, AUX, VCR, EXT, Tuner and DVD. There is nothing about optical. Would it be something on the back?

I had a similar prob to this on my old dvd player.

I think when you use a hdmi cable to connect to your tv, ( I assume you are?? or are you using a scart?)
you then need to tell the player to NOT output the sound down the hdmi cable.

Just setting it to optical is not enough.

I cant check my ps3 settings just now as my kids are watching a film on it...

I will check later if your still having problems.
