vodafone has changed my contract. Help!

Hi,
I've been on a vodafone contract with a 100 percent discount for the line rental for about 5 years. Recently vodafone contacted me and said I was eligable for a phone upgrade if I extended my contract. I thought this sounded too good. I spoke to an operative who said my current billing conditions would not change and specified that the 100 percent discount on the line rental would still be in effect on the renewed contract. I needed a new phone so I agreed to a 24 month contract with them on the understanding that my billing arrangements would not change.

I then got a phone call 3 weeks ago saying that the 100 percent discount was applied to my new contract incorrectly, that it was their mistake and as of midnight that night would go up to what it should be at £15/month. I said I was specifically told that the discount would stay but they said if I wanted to get out of the contract I would have to return the phone to them. As I have disposed of my old one I will be left with no phone and no mobile line.

Can they do this to me because I think they are making the contract invalid by changing it. Anyone with any experience please help. I don't know what my rights are.

Many thanks

Phil

Hi Phil. Sounds like you were on a very good deal. What sort of user are youi? i.e. do you spend a lot of money with them on usage or are you a minimum user. If the later I can see why they have moved you off that old contract and probably dont support it any more.

If you have it in writting from the sales person confirming you may have grounds to get it corrected. Failing that you could cancel as you say in disgust, but need another phone.

    Good luck ...
  • Cheers for the reply Deano, I used to use it quite a bit but recently I've been using works phone so my bills have been aroung 5 pounds so it has been a good deal. The thing is all my friends, family etc have that number and don't really want to change it. The person on the phone did confirm that the 100 percent refund would still be in effect for the duration of the contract. But I didn't record it and I'm sure they won't supply me with a copy so I think I will have to bite the bullet like you say.
Oh well, you live and learn.

    heard of this before

If you've done the whole deal over the phone then the Deal has to be comfirmed via Vodafone.

    ie

why would somebody whom doesn't use their phone much all of a sudden want to start paying £15 per month..after getting a 100% reduced line rental all because they wanted a new phone????

contact vodafone by email and ask them to look into these and also ask them to look at your call history spend before/after getting your new phone. If it hasn't changed why would of you changed price plans??
