31 a day is very excessive. We re missing something somewhere
I've never known a boost button on a combi.
We have 4 tv's. I don't have the tv on during the day, the 42 inch one, as im watching my usage. I would say that the majority of our usage is tv's and ps3's. theres 7 of us and we're using 70khw pw. The average family seems to use about 40 ish. I do control the amount of time the tv's are on though , if i didnt they would be on 24 hours a day at the weekend.
You shouldn't be running out of hot water if you have a combi.
sorry if answers are short - im feeding the baby!
A friend or life - thank you !
DAN p.s How BIG is this tv of yours? Im imagining some cinema type thing! lol
Its a 50 inch plasma. We dont have it on 24 hours a day. I work from home in the day literally have nothing else on apart from the light in my office as my laptop battery last for 5 hours.
The tv will be on from about 6 till 11pm every night though.
I think maybe im confused about the heating etc and i think if i get to the bottom of that then i can save a few units a day but overall it just seems the house sucks more electricity for everything that is being used.
If i sort the heating out then there is still the issue of washing machine and dishwasher using 3 units everytime.0 -
Dan turn that heating thermostate down (the thing in the hallway), or you will be back here with large gas bill. 18c should be enough for a bunch of guys! at least to start with.0

Have you turned the mains off, then looked to see if the meter stops?
if the oven has flames its gas if not its electric0 -
What do the dials say on the oven? If it's gas then it will have gas marks, and if it is electric it will have temperatures. Ours is an electric oven and a gas hob, they are fairly common.
It doesn't really sound like a combi to me, but then I'm no expert! Do you have a hot water cylinder? When you have the hot water switched on without the heating does the gas meter register anything?
I have just worked out that i definately have an electric oven but to be honest it doesnt get used a great deal. I go to gym quite alot and i am always on a weight gaining diet and everything i eat gets cooked on the hob. Pasta, mince and chicken breast. So i dont see my oven being electric as a big problem.
To be honest i never check the gas readings as i am quite happy with the amount of gas i use. My bill is £35 a month0 -

Im cooking at the moment so will im doing that i will let my laptop charge up a little bit more and then conduct the test. All of this really does take up so much time and i havent done any work today.:rolleyes:0 -
Dan that last pic looks like a electric hot water heater and a big one at that, with the switch on the wall on, if I'm right its an immersion heater, would be emergency hot water if needed, my parents had one.
Turn the switch off and could find that that is whats been using your elec.
THEY ARE VERY VERY EXPENSIVE TO RUN 24/7!!
Where ever that tank switch is, turn it off, your hot water should be coming from your gas boiler. I'm sure I'm right the more I look at that pic
Edit: After you have turned it off take a reading again in an hour I bet its not gone up 1 unit!0 -
Just took my meter readings again and in the last 2 hours it has gone up just over 1 unit.
In this time nothing has been turn on apart from the tv for 20 minutes and my laptop charging up.0 -
Re the gas. If you use boost and the temp drops quite quickly you might feel colder and hit boost again. While your gas consumption is reasonable for three people you might get better comfort and lower gas use from a low setting for a longer period.
It might also aid productivity if it leaves a nagging to boost or not to boost. (Actually I just jiggle my feet more.)
Appreciate you don't give a scooby about the gas at this time.0 -

If the hot water is always coming from the gas boiler then why do i run out of hot water sometimes and if the purpose of that big tank is for emergency hot water then why do i run out of hot water ever.
The estate agents should take the time out to show you exactly how the house runs when you move in.0 -

I guess so. Bad sentence. Just testing ahem.Replace off with 'off', as in not running or 'apparently off', it could still be using energy. It would be warm.
I'm not sure if showers fail in this manner or have a standby consumption, but I would be hunting for that switch anyway. Not having that.0
