Don't you just hate people who say "VAT is to added to the final price"?

It is a pain. I tried to buy a DVD collection recently with the "buy it now" option but when the VAT was added it would cost more than to buy it from Play and Amazon combined!! (well slight exaggeration ) :D

I think it depends how you set up your ebay account in your preferences. We are VAT registered but we display prices inclusive of VAT as most retail customers prefer it this way. We are required to itemise VAT for items over £250 (it's gone up recently from £100), with any figure below this only a total needs to be given but the VAT number should be shown on invoices that are issued. Customs and Excise can confirm that a number is valid for any particular trader.

If people list VAT separately, it will also be charged at the same rate on the postage cost - so unless it's something charged at 0% like a book you need to factor that in too.

I am sure that the preferences set can be changed so VAT registered sellers are not stuck with the system of adding VAT on the sale total if they don't want it that way.

I'm a VAT-registered seller. I always include VAT in the final price UNLESS I'm selling something intended for the trade in which case it's excluded. This aligns my retail prices with shops and my trade ones with wholesalers. I've never had a problem.
    Can I help?

Mind you, in the past I've purchased goods saying "VAT included" and then found the seller isn't registered when I ask for a receipt! This basically adds 17.5% to my price as I have to add VAT if I sell anything.
