Don't you just hate people who say "VAT is to added to the final price"?

Wouldn't mind if they said it in their item description, but quite often it's left until the 'sellers payment terms' box.
Really annoys me!!

I have to agree with ya on that one.

Generally I would say yes I hate anything hidden, but with ebay surely the VAT registered sellers have no choice but to add the VAT at the end, as how otherwise will they calculate the amount?
Should make it clear that they are VAT registered though.0 -
If in doubt you can ask them for the VAT reg Number also.

Yes very good idea, by law they have to display their VAT number on receipts, so that if you are VAT registered you can include it in your expenses.0

.
Shops don't do this, why should ebay sellers.
Shop prices include VAT already, I think it's more likely to fee avoidance.0 -
Most VAT registered traders include VAT in the bidding price.
I reckon it must annoy most folk and their sales must suffer accordingly if sellers add it at the end. They probably just catch the unwary. How many times have you come across an item with a minute to go given it a cursory glance and whacked in a bid only to find strange T&C's.0 -

There's no requirement in law to display a VAT number. In most places you have to specifically ask for a VAT receipt. To reclaim VAT you need to have a receipt that specifically says how much VAT has been charged, the price charged, and the VAT number.
UK law requires advertising aimed at consumers to be VAT inclusive, but "trade" adverts don't need to be. Customs and Excise are still getting their heads round Ebay, so they're still a bit of a grey area.0 -
Not strictly true
the rules on VAT vary depending on whether the item costs more or less than £1000 -
I sometimes sell items for my ompany through Ebay. As i have registered to them as a VAT reg company, Ebay automatically add the VAT to the final price. You will usually find that most traders who advertise that VAT will be added are aimed at other business users. The seller doesn't profit from VAT, the government does. Like anything on Ebay, READ THE DESCRIPTION, and bid accordinly.(".)0

I agree with the point about applying VAT to the final winning price (doesn't really make sense otherwise) - although VAT can only be applied if the seller is VAT registered and also depends on the nature of the product (some are 0%, some exempt, some are 17.5%) so the actual price of the good is irrelevant... re VAT registered sellers actually trading, I'd guess that if the purchaser was VAT registered, they would ask for a VAT receipt, everyone else, would just get the usual "thanks" note0
