Hey
Can you use an Oyster card to go all way to heathrow via tube? Or do you need separate travelcard/ticket?
Oyster website is down so can't check!
Thanks

Of course they are in the Zones, they do not leave the GLA area. But you cannot use your Oyster or Travelcard on them.0 -

Incorrect. According to the London Connections map (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/system/galleries/download/print_maps/LondonConnections.pdf) they do not stop in the zones.Ex-Employee of a Train Operating Company.

Of course they are in the zones! It is just they are outside the ATOC settlement plan. Oystercard pre-pay is not yet valid on most National Rail services, and Travelcards are not valid on them because they are not part of the Travelcard scheme. But they are physically within the zones. No wonder the public do not understand rail fares when half the staff don't!I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
Ok
Heathrow Express is an open access operator owned and operated by BAA plc. As an open access operator they can decide what tickets to accept, what to charge and what not to accept.
Heathrow Express sets its own prices.
Does NOT accept Travelcards,
Does NOT accept Oyster in any way (and will not from what I am hearing).
Will ONLY accept its own priced tickets, most of which will say Heathrow Express as a destination.
Heathrow Connect is also an open access operator owned by BAA plc and operated by First Group. It is part of the ATOC RSP because it stops at stations inside the Zone, and the last stop is Hayes and Harlington.
Apart from stations Paddington to Hayes it also sets its own fares and decides what to accept and what not to accept.
Does NOT accept Travelcards between Hayes and Heathrow,
Does NOT accept Oyster in any way between Hayes and Heathrow.
Will ONLY accept its own priced tickets between Hayes and Heathrow, most of which will say Heathrow Connect as a destination.
I have also spoken to my Pricing Manager who spoke to ATOC and ATOC have also stated that Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect are outside of the LUL Zones. They maybe 'physically' in the zones as you state, but what's the point being 'physically' inside the zones if you cannot benefit from the zonal system.

Hello
How would someone travelling from zone 4 via z123 pay the best fare to Heathrow via heathrow Connect.
Could they use a pre pay Oyster till Hayes and buy a ticket in advance for Hayes to Heathrow. How will they touch out?
Or buy a single Z1-6 to Hayes and again can they buy a ticket several days in advance for Hayes to Heathrow.
Any other suggestions. Preferably without having to buy a ticket on the day at Paddington.
PS how would you work it coming back.
Thanks

The adult fare between Hayes and Heathrow is five pounds. So any solutions that involve paying this fare as well as using an Oystercard or Travelcard to get to Hayes are unlikely to be cost-effective.
If you really want to minimise cost and do not care about inconvenience, then either take the tube all the way or get to Hayes and then take the bus from there.0 -

Sorry - that wasn't directed at you! I think you will agree a lot of staff do not understand the system. The last time I looked at a zonal map, the Heathrow Express was inside the zones, with just a note saying that Travelcards were not valid on it. Bit like the Underground is in the zones but bus passes not valid on it.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Ok apology accepted.
I am one of those members of staff that think the system is deliberately complicated and I even believe that ATOC think up of ways to make it even more stupidly complicated.
I also like to help others on here for that exact same reason, that I am one of only a few staff that can understand the system.Ex-Employee of a Train Operating Company.
