Beware Of Duplicate Usernames

Ok,
Got a response back from abuse saying they would email him/her and ask would they change their username. Hopefully they will listen to the Mod Gods:D
Will keep everyone posted.
BTW, PMSL at the penguin clip:T :T :T0 -
I just had to say, I love this thread. It is so deeply serious... "BEWARE the duplicate usernames', it's like some new episode of Dr Who.
(I do take your point, it just tickled me) Out there are evil, evil usernames that fraudulently imitate others and infiltrate and confuse MSE. I love it. So exciting. Anyone notice any duplicate vixens? let me know, I'll have em.:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0 -

reading this, what if the guy/girl is generally just another newbie and didnt know you had the same username your all asking him to change his username must feel like he isnt wanted and make him feel bad.
he could turn round and say no then you all wont post to him when he posts a message or something for advice, seems a bit harsh. I wouldnt of posted a message to abuse i would of just kindly got the long standing "InTheBrownStuff" to PM him and just ask nicely if he would mind changing his username. I dont think he has done anything wrong so far.0 -
Paddy, I did actually PM him/her but they ignored it.....
Also I gave him/her advice on a couple of posts as did others. The concern is as this.
Lets say I wanted to send you a private message but couldn't remeber which thread you posted on and i just typed in paddyUK and sent a "private" message to the wrong person. Usernames are meant to be unique and one that is exactly the same, although with different use of capitals can only lead to confusion.
No one on this board would ever deter anyone from posting but thanks for your input0 -
It only took one read of a post by itbs you realise it wasn't you but have to admit, first thoughts were:
1) BR? ITBS? Never!
2) Been drinking?
3) Halved your IQ?
But your points re confusion of identity are well-founded IMHO.Blonde: Unemployed: Bankrupt.

HiG2C,
Nice to hear from you.
Bloo dy HMRC backed me into a corner and I had no choice other than Bankruptcy.....
Hope you are well????0 -
In this case I think the new itbs (as opposed to ITBS!) did not intend to duplicate the name - maybe he/she is just too stressed out tolook at PMs? However I do agree that it needs changing - 2 people with BR problems with the "same" name is a problem.
The other scenario that Pania and BOS had was malicious and just not necessary. It can be difficult finding a user name for a forum as often your obvious choices are already gone, then folk add additional letters and numbers which can be confusing.
Keep us posted ITBS and hopefully it will sorted shortly.0 -

Oh, so you did, I remember now (silly me for not reading back).....
I think I need to find any of your updates, as I have to say, your story and progress have inspired me from the getgo.
I am OK, I think - thanks for asking. Still got job dilemmas but that's another story. Received a letter from one of my creditors today and another one yesterday so not sure !!!!!! the OR's office has done regarding letting people know. I'm away to call them now.
I know that I am probably wrong to be critical of your lower case name-thief but honestly, I knew almost instantly that it wasn't the ITBS that we all know and love. Just didn't have your style.
Having said that, don't like the image it conjures up in any case - I am picturing head stricking out of a steaming slurry pit - and that's certainly not you I think!Blonde: Unemployed: Bankrupt.
