Beware Of Duplicate Usernames

Hi There was a few cases of someone on the debt forum using similar names to regulars so I would check it out with abuse.

Also, I suggest that you look for the post that you want to PM about, & PM from there rather than getting their name from the member list. You can also add people to your buddy list, which will make it easier for you to check the spelling of their name in future.

Two recent trolls used that "name similarity" a few weeks ago, pania became pania1, and bank_of_slate was also altered but minimally - it was easy, too easy, to not spot the difference immediately - so reporting another incident to "abuse" is very wise.

Agreed - it could be innocent in this case (look at all the penguins we have for instance). I have to say that anyone who "knew you" would be aware that the tone of the posts was completely different; I was confused for all of about 10 seconds!

It is possible for the admin folk to change a username,if the user requests it. On a different forum I had to change my username-I was daft enough to think it was safe to use my real name as it was a crafting site. Unfortunately something called a 'smackblog' has drifted over from america,and after innocently answering some medical and midwifery queries (I have qualifications on 3 seperate parts of the nursing register) I found myself being called a fake and a liar on this blog,which I found very disturbing.The accusations and lies went on for 3 pages,and the site allowed people to be totally anonymous so it was easy for people to 'bully'. It took some persuading but eventually the owner of the craft site allowed me to change my name.
I am surprised the registration system allows such a similar name to be used,plain daft if you ask me!

I have been shocked at some of the sheer nastiness on this site (but obviously the greater percentage is help and support)so I think it's understandable that you are concerned.

Really busy on the taxis today cos its peeing it down.

Have emailed abuse so I guess i'll just wait for a reply.

Will keep you all updated, even stranger now i know its not just me, the pania1, BoS etc. Its not as if our usernames are that common which is why I was worried in the first place.
