Firefox 3 should import the bookmarks from your bookmarks.html file in your profile folder and convert them into the new (sqlite) format it uses.
This may help: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks
FF3 has always flawlessly imported my bookmarks so far.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Would the bookmarks have been deleted if i had uninstalled firefox 2 before number 3 was installedNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

if you turn on hidden files and browse to your windows profile C:\Document and Settings\Username
find the Mozilla folder and in there you should see the bookmarks.html files (the main one plus backups). Copy out the bookmarks file to say the desktop. Load up Firefox ten import the bookmarks.0 -

Shouldn't have been since they are stored in your profile folder. That shouldn't be deleted when you uninstall.
It's possible that FF3 has started off with a new profile rather than importing the bookmarks from the old one.
Even when FF3 has imported my old bookmarks before, it has always left the old bookmarks.html file in the profile folder.
The links should help you to find that if it still exists.
It's always a good idea to back up your profile folder first before you upgrade Firefox.

no because the profile folder isn't deleted during a normal uninstall

From: profile folderFor Windows users
On Windows systems, the default location of the profile folder containing your user data is under the "Application Data" folder in Windows XP and earlier or under the "AppData\Roaming" folder in Windows Vista. In Windows 2000 and later, these folders are hidden.
To find your profile folder in Windows 2000/XP/Vista:
Press [Windows Key]+[R] → Type in %APPDATA% → click OK
A Windows Explorer window will open, showing the contents of the C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data folder in Windows 2000 and XP or the C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming folder in Windows Vista. You can then open successive folders until you get to the profile folder.
If you want to browse to the default profile folder locations for Windows 2000 or later you will need to enable viewing of hidden files and folders in your Windows Folder Options. You can also search for specific files in your profile folder using Windows Search. In Windows 2000 you must first enable viewing of hidden files and folders; in Windows XP and Vista, you must enable searching for hidden files and folders in the Search tool itself. If you need more help viewing or searching hidden files and folders in Windows 2000 or later, see this article.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\7rs8u5do.default\bookmarkbackups

The files in that folder are normally slightly older backups if I remember correctly.
There should be a bookmarks.html or bookmarks.bak file in the main profile folder which should be the the most up to date version of your bookmarks.
If they are missing or messed up, then you use the slightly older versions in the "bookmarkbackups" folder.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
