Will telewest still upgrade even though NTL has bought them over ?

I am on broadband 512k service, waiting for telewest to upgrade me for free to 2mb sometime this month.

I wonder if it will still happen now that NTL are taking them over.

There's not much info on either telewest or NTL websites, i feel a huge disruption coming on :(

I agree this merge does make you feel unsettled. It was only Friday of last week I called telewest regarding improvements to the service they are offering and they did not mention the merge. I guess it is possible the staff were unaware. He told me the speed update was all to be completed during October, everyone was to be doubled in speed. He also informed me of the new Teleport (which they liken to Sky + ) for customers on their cable tv service. There were no planned improvements to the phone service. The reason I called was because I was feeling they offer increasingly poor value for money whereas NTL seem to be increaing their basic tv package and reducing fees for telephone on a regular basis.

I wonder if now we may receive the best of or the worst of both companies.

Maybe I should move to Sky for the tv, this teleport is no where near as good as Sky + anyway. But then do I stay with telewest for internet and phone?

    Anyone know something I dont......

Teleport wont be as good as sky plus your right, but it will be free AND telewest are going to launch thier own sky plus style boxes with two tuners soon.

A further note on teleport it TW cant get BBCI to work how in hell will they get this too?

Well I think you are lucky as that was obvously done before the merger was announced. I dont think telewest will bother doing everyone else now since they are merging in the next few months :(

I have no choice to be with telewest, otherwise I would have to install a BT £££££ and do without Sky as I aint allowed a dish on my house.

I wasn't impressed with NTL's prices as I currently use telewest for tv, phone and internet and from what I can see, you dont get the 'free' phone line rental that you get from telewest, which already makes it £10 a month more.

I am sure that telewest with do the decent thing and write to us to reassure us since they are such a professional company ;):(

Not so sure about that, I had an email form them last night stating there my be a disruption of about 2 hours to my service between now and 17th October whilst upgrade work is getting carried out.
I certainly hope it doesn't change things I'm looking forward to my 10 meg broadband!

It's been on the card for years, so in that sense the staff would have known there's an inevitability about it. However, having been an employee of companies going through various mergers, acquisitions, downsizing etc, I can confirm that the first staff know about things actually happening are when it appears in the press. I gather it has to be that way for stock market disclosure reasons.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

    Dont hold your breath.
I live in a very highly populated telewest analogue area where they have been saying for years they will upgrade the lines to cope with digital.

I moved over to BT 2 years back to get broadband, Telewest customers around Slough and Windsor still cannot get it, that is assuming they have any customers left there that is :(

I found THIS article quite interesting today. I'm intrigued to see how the broadband market will change if the OFT rules that NTL has to open its network to other companies.

It works the other way around as well. I worked for Colorvision (do you remember them?) and on the way to work one day we heard on the radio they were going into receivership. No one (except the main directors, etc) knew about it until we heard it on the radio. It came as a complete surprise. In fact they had the staff meeting the month before and nothing was mentioned about financial trouble, etc. I do believe a lot of the time the normal staff are not aware of anything until it is announced.
