Horace you should go back horseriding! Blind people can ride so I'm sure you can too! It's just confidence! Why not contact a local stable and see if they could do some 30 mins sessions with you on your own so you don't have to worry about other riders in the lesson. You don't have to do jumping - flatwork can be very rewarding and no obstacles on the ground to worry about and let's face it... the horse won't saunder into the barriers even if you can't see them clearlyDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Well... I enjoyed it whilst it lasted... and definitely got a bit fitter!
Alas just as I was getting into the swing if it... I fell pregnant! We figured it would take us a while to fall, all our friends who have tried have taken 8 months + and we honestly thought there was no chance we'd succeed quicker than them... But first try and the little letters came up with Pregnant...
I'm now nearly at the end of my first trimester (well I'm 11 weeks) and I have to admit I'm missing the horses dreadfully! I'm seriously thinking of finding someone who wants a nutty pregnant woman to pop round and just groom their horse once or twice a week just to be round them again
Was it cheap? No... Would i do it again the minute health and baby allows? You betcha!
BTW dog training also making progress!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Wa-hey! Congrats, Mrs Tine!
Regarding the being around horses, I ride a friend's horse, and she has done 'horse sitting' from time to time, and earned a few pennies from it too. Or I'm sure the riding stables would let you go down and just 'be' with the horses if you asked - I assume you have told them the good news too!
And, just to inspire you to get back in the saddle - me and my friend's horse having some fun a little while back:

Awww he's gorgeous! You're making me VERY jealous!
I am thinking about going down there to see if they will let me just mollycoddle the horses a bitYeah they know I'm pregnant - they called when I missed a lesson (as I haven't missed one before!) and DH told them - he didn't tell them at the time that I'd ended up in hospital in case they thought it was because I'd been riding whilst pregnant etc as we knew it was just bad morning sickness
BTW that is an unusual bridle you're using - what is it? Not seen one like that before... looks like a modified western curb bit? (says the snaffle and gag fan!)DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

So the cantilever means than when neccessary he can't escape the bit and has to listen to the rider. We use it carefully, though, as he has a light mouth and the cantilever can be harsh if used incorrectly. I'd actually like to try him on a modern bitless bridle, as I've ridden him bareback in fields with just a halter and lead rope, and he enjoys that and responds quite well.
The more unusual part about the old bridle is the metalwork near the eyes - that is a metal clip (like a spring lead rope clip) which holds the bit onto the actual bridle. There's an identical one the other side, and the idea is that during an endurance race, rather than have to carry a separate halter for when you stop, all you do is unclip the bit from the headpiece and voila - instant halter!Never underestimate the power of the techno-geek...0
