Nope, they seem to get more good than bad feedback on the forum though. Mr Lewis rates them. Funny they managed to get on the BBC last night!"Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies." Thomas Jefferson
"How can I believe in God when just last week I got my tongue caught in the roller of an electric typewriter?" Woody Allen

Ps. Martin nothing was meant by that!"Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies." Thomas Jefferson

I cannot seem to find anything on ther Forums having done an advanced search. Can you point me in the right direction?
London and County only seem to appear in on the main site via one of Martin's articles.

L&C appear because they have the capacity to handle the levels of business that a company given as an example of fees free can. The fact that thousands of other small firms out there do exactly the same doesnt matter. If one of them got mentioned on the site they could be flooded by enquiries and end up giving a poor service because of it.
L&C get mixed reviews on the forum. Typically the bad reviews are not due to bad service but because the person wasnt really suited for a direct/internet level service and needed more hand holding that a face to face service gives. Its a different type of service.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
HI
I contacted London and County. They called me just as I was going out but promised to call me back the next morning. Heard nothing from them and then got an email today saying sorry they couldn't help me at the moment as I haven't found my property yet. I told them very clearly I was after a re-mortgage.
Not impressed.0 -
mortgage Monitor - I found them really helpfull (tom) and would recommend without hesitation! LR0

I've been dealing with Mortgage Monitor for the past 6 weeks for various quotes related to a house move.
I've found the staff to be very clear with their advice and prompt with their quotes. I also found them to be harder working than L&C and to have more time to spend looking at my personal requirements. Perhaps this is because they are a smaller company with fewer clients - I hope it does not change when they start getting more business. The quotes were very competitive. Strongly recommended.0 -
Called both of these today. The L & C adviser was a bit better and seemed more competent, but they both came up with similar quotes.
I'm sure they have hundreds of staff so it depends on who picks up but one thing I liked about L & C was the chap gave me his name and direct line so I can call him back when we want to offer on somewhere.
Whereas as mortgage direct just said to call them back on the generic number.0 -
Just a word of caution...please confirm with these companies that they recommend Broker deals AND Direct deals. Being 'whole of market' is not what it sounds like. It is NOT 100% of the market but they select from a panel of lenders that represent the whole of the market (see the FSA website).
If you are not paying a fee then they need to earn a commission...and therefore they offer Broker deals only !!!!0 -
I contacted mortgagemonitor after reading advice on this site and they were fantastic. I received clear, concise (and friendly) advice, in more detail than at my local building society. The resulting best deal for me was to apply directly to Abbey, so effectively the advice was free. I feel confident to recommend them and will be dealing with them on associated insurances. Thank you to Sammy Jacobs at mortgage monitor.0
