Airline Workers: Top Upgrade Tips Please

  • My landlord is a polite for the airline I flew to the US with.

I mentioned to him I was going away etc and never asked about an upgrade.

I was seated on the plane with my boyfriend and my daughter when they came along to "upgrade" us.

Until the stewardess looked and said "Oh, you have a child" so sorry its not possible to move you.

OK...seems a bit hit and miss, perhaps depends on the personality of the check in agent and the passengers attitude towards them?
We (4 adults) are travelling to Chicago with Virgin in August, any tips or ideas how I may be able to receive an upgrade? Also, how much would it cost to pay for this,is it worth how much I would pay and at what stage should I enquire about it?

    Thank-you.

Give me strength :wall: This thread is dedicated to that very subject - I take it you haven't bothered to read it?

You can probably check the website to see how much an upgrade costs at the moment.

Surely only you can answer that question?

I have a feeling this thread is getting peoples' hopes up unnecessarily

I have read the thread,I just thought someone may have some information which may be specific to my travel plans.....not a patronising answer.

Well, I'm not sure what you were expecting as a reply - obviously the previous 5 pages of information aren't enough for you

Your chances are Nil, Zero, Zilch, Nothing. The passengers who get them probably haven't heard of this website, they are wealthy and have spent thousands on Virgin this year and are currently worrying about which vintage wine to have with Sunday lunch.

Call Virgin and ask how much a one way upgrade to Premium economy would be, or check their website.

You can either pay for an upgrade to PE in advance or at check-in.

No-one here is going to be able to tell you how much it will be as we don't know your fare bucket etc.

All you need to do is ring VS up and ask.
I'm assuming none of you have status with VS in which case there's no reason to expect an op-up on the day if Y is oversold.

  • wayne if you want to get it as cheap as poss and want a bargain (dont we all) then the best price will no doubt be on the day, ask at check in how much it would be to upgrade....some airlines have special deals as they would rather make some ££ rather than give away an upgrade for nothing and make that product cheaper on the day to get in the ££££
