seriously, lettuce in a basket? surely this wont look very ornamental or colourful?
ive got a great big back garden , 1/3 acre plus, and not very green fingered. Hence i wasnt sure of the naffness of baskets!!( my friend smirked when she saw 2 fake 4ft blossom trees i placed to hide two drains!!)
i do like a bit of colour but dont want to waste loads of money each yr on a basket.

    ps-

Mixed leaf lettuce is very colourful, and tasty:D Your drain problem could be solved by going to Lidle when they have shrub and tree offers. I got a Kiwi and a fig for £2.49 each, and they are growing beautifully, but to be honest, with a 1/3rd of an acre, how many foots and inches is that?:D You should have a paradise on earth:pI note you live in the Midlands, do you need a gardener? Lol

yes i live in nottingham, and most definetley need a gardener, however lack of pennies prevent ( hence plastic trees) Thanks for the tips on the trees and the baskets, most kind of you.
  • Don't bother with the artificial ones, Just found the best (and most economical) hanging basket system. Actually found the at an RHS show but these look just the same. http://www.ferndale-lodge.co.uk/pd_MH1073.htm they will last for years and planting out a basket takes 1/3 of the time plus the best point , only seem to need watering about once a week (keeps moisture in ) Takes less plants too. A professional gardener friend of mine has used them for the first time this year too, he is over the moon with themI have no affiliation with the makers or retailers but wish I had shares in 'em!

Plastic plants are actually more expensive and horrible looking compared to real plants.

There are lots of threads on how you can get cheap or free plants. ;)

I personally grow a lot of plants from seed or get offers from my local green grocer.

BTW wilkinsons has a half price seed sale and lidl sells cheap seeds.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I know someone who watered artificial hanging baskets until he was told they didn't need to be watered...

I had a friend with artificial trees and shrubs and amazingly they blossomed all through the winter :D ... I did tell her in the end how rediculous they looked :rotfl: Imagine Fushcias flowering in January....
