In general PIN protections are not very effective on phones. It will only lock the phone if the phone is turned off/sim changed. On many phones there is no way of actually having some sort of standby lock where the user needs to enter the pin to access the phone/make a call.
  • Block outgoing calls on your handset. Go to settings or look in your manual. The default pin is 1111 but check before you enter it. Then you can bar and allow the calls as you wish. If you enter the pin more than 3 times (like your sim pin) it blocks it.

To get round this call your network. If the bar is on get them to remove it, if its not on get them to put ti on. wait for the sim update text, turn off you phone then phone them back up and reverse what they did. Wait for the sim update turn off your phone turn it on and then go to settings or where you manage the bar and put in the default code again and it will work. then you can change your pin to one you want.

Just a couple of points. First of all I can go along with the security of the phone but do these precautions stop someone removing the sim and using it in another phone?
Second I cannot understand why more cannot be done to trace these thieves. As someone said before the numbers rang can be checked.
Thirdly I agree with the point that the network benefit from the theft. It is not costing them £300.
  • The sim code will stop it being used in any phone. The phone lock will stop others putting their sim in your phone. The call barr pin will work on any phone you put your sim in.

There are ways the networks can trace who made these calls. They can not tell you who the calls are too or from under the DPA.

If your phone has been used by someone else then the network should make some effort to resolve it for you.
Call them and ask them to put a hold on the amount you wish to dispute.

I had my home broken into when i was with vodafone and my phone was stolen. Nearly £500 of calls had been made whilst i was in spain, the calls had been made in Portsmouth so there was no way it could of been me. If there are alot of calls being made the networks should question it as they can see unusual call patterns as it gets flagged up on the computers.

With vodafone i refused to pay the bill, it went to a debt company then to court and the judge threw my case out as vodafone had a duty of care to see that i was not making the calls and should of tried to make contact with me which they failed to do. This type of case has been raised by which? and vodafone have backed down on a number of cases.

The sim code will stop it being used in any phone. The phone lock will stop others putting their sim in your phone. The call barr pin will work on any phone you put your sim in.

Phone lock code will mean the person will have to switch off the phone to remove the simcard to use it another phone, which will then activate the sim card pin.

Thats my logic. But it's never been tested because I have never lost my phone!
