many years back when my first child was still under 1, we were mega skint 1 month and i bought value nappies and a pack of shop own brand , i kept the own brand for night time use and the value ones for the day time. they did the job. i wouldn't use them as my own type of nappy but a time when we had very little money they did the job. but they weren't very good for all night use as my little girl slept all night so i used the better brand one's.0

or do what we have had to do this month to get us through....my other half has been out with the metal detector around the local playgrounds in the bark chippings and found £16.31 a necklace a watch and millions of ring pulls :rotfl: has taken hours to find but at least we were able to go to tescos chuck it all in the coin sorter then go and buy a few basics to get us through.:o

Time to take the kids to the park me thinks!!! That is a brilliant idea!!! :TNEVER look down at somebody....unless you are helping them up.0 -
OMG its worse than I thought!!!! Any ideas will be appreciated!!! I will have to buy some fruit and veg tomorrow as I am breastfeeding so need the vitamins etc.
Thank you's xx[/quote]
for fruit and veg try lidl/aldi if they happen to be doing their 70% off.
i know it's easy to say but please try not to worry about this- we live on around this sort of budget every week and although we don't always have fabulous sweets and luxury foods, with a bit of shopping around you can get a pretty good week's worth of food for your money. my best bets are places like you mentioned- frezer places, and set yourself the task of finding everything under a pound (or 50p on a bad week, and thinking- what can i make with this>?
my last tip before i bore you with it is SOUP! soup homemade soup soup soup! it can be as little as pennies!
thinking of you ... hugs x x x... and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should ...0 -
another idea for when you are skint is washable nappies, im preganant with my 4th and with a bid to save money and the environment i thought id try them, rather than the big outlay i asked on freecycle and someone replied. i know have about 20 shaped reuseable nappies, liners, pins waterproof outers etc, all in great/new condition for free! and even if i find them too much hard work all the time there always there for when the money is too tight to stretch to disposables. xOne day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

If you're breastfeeding and nervous about getting enough vitamins, do you have any vitamin pills lurking in a cupboard? I only take them when I've been ill/run down but I can usually find a half-used tub of them when I need them! I'm sure you'll be ok in any case but I know what it's like to be skint with a small baby and worrying about the baby being well-nourished!
My favourite ultra-cheap recipe sounds horrible but is really surprisingly tasty. Fry an onion in some sort of fat/oil for absolutely ages at a low heat, until it's really really soft, brown and tasty. Boil some sliced carrots and before they get too mushy add them to the onions but save the water. While the carrots are browning with the onions, cook some pasta in the carroty water then mix together. Sounds hideous but it's lovely with or without garlic/cheese/bacon/leeks and I actually make it even when I'm feeling flush.
Good luck, chin up, you'll be fine and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised how well you eat!

They're suprisingly good, we haven't experienced any leaks yet (crosses fingers) lol
My son wears them for night time and they're really good
I second this, used them on both my boys and never had any problems.0 -
Morning all,
Well I am in shock at the amount support and ideas given- I don't know what I was worrying about :T Thank you all... And thank you to all those who sent me a PM xxx
Well last night we had shepherds pie and we have some left over :j So will have that with something else another night.... Maybe chips although it would be very potatoey :undecided So probably veg although there is veg in it :undecided well it won't be wasted anyway :rotfl:
Will have a look through and jot down a meal plan from now until payday :j And if we survive (which I'm sure we will!) then I may just budget as low every week as there are some pretty fab ideas listed!!!
I will also find the nearest play area :T And hope to make millions along with everyone else who will be trying it :j
I hadn't thought of asking on freecycle for reusables.. I wanted to use them from when my baby was first born but we couldn't afford the initial outlay
And our council only offered a 5% incentive which still didn't allow us to get any... So will definately ask :j
Wow, thank you all so much again... I feel that there can only be good to come out of this :j And I wouldn't of said that yesterday :rotfl:
