Hi all.
In a few weeks, my girlfriend and I our moving into our new shared ownership home. We're looking at getting insurance but worried about the locks on the house.
The front door is an Ultion cylinder-type lock. According to the cheap insurance article, it isn't one of the 5 recognized by insurance companies. Now we are worried that our insurance will be sky high. We're also worried that the locks may not even be suitable to protect our property and keep intruders out!
Has anyone else been in a similar situation and/or have experience with Ultion locks?0 -

It's not the brand of lock that counts - it's the type. Can't see any obvious problems with Ultion, but you do need more than just a cylinder lock usually - though that depends very much on the property, is location, the sum insured and the insurer.
Have a look at this as a guide:

Please can someone help me?
My mam passed away in January, and I've taken over running my dad's affairs, with LPAs in place. I've searched for insurance documents for contents, but can't find any. The last dd is in Sept 2016, and I can't see any new dds since then on bank statements. Dad is in a council bungalow and over 80. He can't remember which company they might have used.
My question is - is it legal to take out insurance if another policy might be around, or should I go ahead and get some anyway?2025 Fashion on the ration

It's not illegal to have two policies running, it only causes problems if you had two polices and claimed on both polices.
If there are no DDs or signs of payments for a long time it's unlikely they had cover.
Becareful when arranging cover as your father is likely to massively under estimate the cost of replacing his contents at the NEW prices. So take a policy out that offers anough cover to replace everything at the NEW current price0 -

Thank you. I've done a comparison site search for 'new for old' and 'emergency cover', plus legal aid as extras. They quoted £111 which I thought wasn't too bad. I'll check the amount of cover but I think it was something like 50k which would more than cover what he has.2025 Fashion on the ration

Anyone have experience with getting insured, with one of the residents being a full-time student?
I currently live with my brother, who is about to start his master's study this month, in a property that is owned by my parents (they live elsewhere). However, when I look into the policies, insurers tend to exclude full-time students from their insurance.
How can we get insured in this case?0 -

It's a very long time since I was a student, but Endsleigh was the market leader for student-specific insurance then - not sure if they exclude non-students from their policies

Can anyone give me advice as to how to go about insuring a house other than my own? I have an old terrace house that my son and his family live in, I have always paid for the building insurance - he has lived there for 20 years and has never paid a bean in rent - would I be Ok getting a landlord insurance or would that be fraudulent. I have always insured it with Aviva and they have never indicated that it was Landlord insurance, the renewal amount has increased again so I thought I would start to ring around but LV, with whom I have my own insurance said it would have to be landlord, and after a 20 minute phone call gave me a quote that was a lot higher than Aviva. I'm tempted just to renew with them but just thought I would ask if anyone has any info that would help many thanks

Why not get him to insure the property and then you give him the money? Otherwise, try an insurance broker.0 -
Thank you for your reply, I assumed that since he did not own the building he would not be able to insure it, but I will check xx0
