Seems that coininvestdirect is preferred over chard.
What's the minimum amount for free shipping? They only quote for Germany.
From the above post it sounds like £2500 is the min (but I'm guessing postage wouldn't be too much anyway).

Would the Brittanias be best value?
Chard has a "our choice bullion coins" which is easy.

lol 100kg. At the moment I can chest bench 60kg at the gym. This coin would be good to work out with when i get to the 100 mark.:D

minimum is £2500 for free shipping. its only about £8-£10 anyway but if you ultimately want the gold then why not cut as many costs as possible.

last few days of trading the coins came down a bit, surprisingly. more to do with sterling picking up a bit i think as gold hasn't stopped its charge against the dollar.

my own pick right now would be the '09 maple leafs @ £668. this represents great value and you'll be getting shiny new coins :)
  • Not much point if the tax free britannia is the same price, if gold hits 5k best to have those

they are about £20 more. tax free though? sounds like there's something in relation to selling them that i'm not aware of.

would you be so kind to explain? cheers.
  • British currency is not subject to cgt even when its gold apparently

yes! just started to read up on that. that's an important thing to consider as i'm gonna get a fair bit of gold.

capital gains allowance is about 10k as far as i can see, so potentially if gold did go up in value massively and you sold a decent amount in one year - the profits you made over the cgt allowance would be taxed at 18%. is that right?

thanks for bringing that up, although i will still get a few other coins closer to the spot price, especially the smaller denominated ones. bring on the britannias
  • Sounds right, it scales up I think. CGT is complicated to me, im not sure when or if indexation kicks in but I do know your first personal residence and also classic cars are free from any tax hence why I hear of a 4 million buggati sale recently I guess

If you start storing such valuable items in your home, it probably needs to be listed on insurance also though another thread mentioned a shoebox deposit box in a bank only costs 50 a year, lucky you if you want to buy more coins then that
