Careful with that flooded cupboard, these units are made of chip board, and they dont mix well with water. It is likely the water will have been absorbed by the chipboard, causing it to swell and weaken the structure.

Sorry to say this, but you'll need a friend (preferably someone who knows what they're doing) to look at it. If the skirting board is held on by tape at the front that won't be as easy as on held on with screws to get it off and put back on, it'll need to come off to inspect the underneath.
  • It was very flooded to the point the B&Q site inspector thought it would have to be replaced. It had spread and an end board and all the three kick-boards had to be replaced because of the water damage... but they decided not to replace the cupboard as it would have meant too much work for them. They said that they would have had to take the worktops and sink out and other cupboards and it would be too much hassle for us. They said it had dried out nicely. We've got no way of prooving otherwise but can assume if it was going to mean hassle for us it would also mean hassle for them.

  • I had a bad experience with my kitchen from b & q as well. We fitted it ourselves but it took 4 months to get all the bits although we paid extra for 14 day delivery. it got to 2 days before christmas and we were still missing items which we discovered were in stock in our local store so we purchased them again just to avoid ruining christmas. It then took a further 6 months for them to refund the money of the items we had paid twice and then only after contacting watchdog and numerous emails. Oh and the vouchers that promised us as compensation never arrived but by this time we were just happy to get our money back and let it drop. I will never order anything for delivery from them again.

  • We received a standardised letter from B&Q today. They cared so much about making it personal and taking our complaint seriously that they mentioned no specifics in the letter and they couldn't even get my husbands name right... who is 'Mr A Thompson'? The letter of complaint we sent was from 'Mr Philip Thompson'.

The letter enclosed a cheque and made it quite clear that B&Q were offering this as 'full and final' settlement whilst they admitted no liability. My husband had told B&Q in no uncertain terms not to send the cheque. I'm sure they sent it in the hopes that we would be stupid enough to cash it so that we couldn't take any further action. Do we have to send them the cheque back or can we just rip it up? Why should we waste the cost of a stamp and envelope and go to the effort of getting someone to post it for us as well as write a covering letter? B&Q have stolen enough of our time.

They think that £19 per week of misery is adequate compensation. By my calculations if you are prepared to have your life completely turned upside down and live without a kitchen for seven years you can actually get a free kitchen... minus the rate of inflation of course... and all the takeaways you have to pay for... and meals out because you can't invite friends over... and the cost of psychiatric treatment to keep you sane.

Just when I thought B&Q couldn't annoy me anymore!

Glad to see your getting good advice. Hopefully the media will run a story and name and shame B&Q for what they have done, its a disgrace, someone there deserves a good kick up the backside, hope they never have to go through this, nor have health problems.
