Best replacement for Gainsborough 10.5 delux?

Hello,

Our electric shower has just packed it in, it was a Gainsborough 10.5 Delux, and from what I read, it is not a surprise it has died!

We are now looking to replace it, and I was wondering if anyone can help with the choice. From what I can see, Triton and Mira are the best bet, but what model, what kWh?????? I'm a bit lost I must say, and the more I look, the worst it gets!

One last thing, does anybody know if we could have a Mira Sport Max, it is 10.8 kWh, and although it is a bit higher than the one we have now, I believe the requirements are the same, am I right?

Cheers in advance for your help,

Fiona

all you need to do is make sure your wiring is upto standard i.e 10mm cable
and i would think that with you having a 10.5kw previousley your cable should be this anyway.

as for the shower the mira 10.8kw will be fine. but new style 9.5kw showers are as good and as powerfull as an older 10.5kw shower

yes triton are good aswell but they do require water pressure to operate and if your local water company reduces its water pressure at certain times of the day usually upto between midnight and 6.30am or you live in a low pressure area your triton may struggle to operate on the lower pressures.

    hope this helps

Hi lapat, yes thanks, that does help a lot. It means for a start that I will not be getting a triton. I am working on the assumption that our cable is OK, we only bought the house last year so I will sue someone if it is not! Is the Mira Sport Max an old model? In that case, what would be a more recent model that you would recommend? Cheers, Fiona

All electric showers have pressure switches, it is a safety feature. It prevents scalding - if too little water was passing through the shower it will boil the water.
I still prefer Triton as I have fewer problems with them.

So back to square one then! Triton or Mira, 10.5 or new 9.5, in which case, what are the newer better models? Help, please???

Hi there, just to add to the confusion ;) , have you considered a galaxy shower? I was recommended this make by someone on this board who has been selling showers for some time (and no he didn't try to sell me one).

This is their site http://www.galaxy-showers.com/aqua3000.htm , that would be the comparable model range to the 2 you're looking at.

It also comes with a 2 year guarantee and is a good bit cheaper than Triton/Mira, we've been using it for about 3 months and it's truelly brilliant and a nice looking unit too.

One of my wholesalers have stopped selling Galaxy showers- they had a 'graveyard' at one point. Faulty returns in the store room

I installed one (at customer request, against advice), and got them to buy it. It went faulty after 54 weeks. Not covered by guarantee

    Mira gets my vote everytime.

no the mira sport is a newer model what i was saying the newer 9.5 kw are as powerfull as say a 10.5kw shower was 5 years ago.

and again for the water pressure issue lets just say for arguments sake triton are more tempremental than others when the pressure is lower.

me personnaly the more powerfull the better as the higher the kw the better it is at keeping a constant supply of hot water.

and there are others on the market like aqualisa, groehe, bristan

it all depends on your budget.

if you are looking for the mire sport screwfix for £220 and i know quidco has a cashback aswell but i couldnt tell you what it is off hand

  • My plumber says he only fits Mira.

But if replacing you should check where the elec and water come out the wall (if they are in the wall?). We have a Triton and I have noticed newer shower models have the elec and water points in a slightly different config (closer together), but our elec comes out the wall to the left side of the shower and water to the right of middle.

Screwfix had some 'old model?' Tritons reduced recently
