Natwest are :mad: they rejected our token payment on 5 occasions and went ahead with the Default!! They are now even sending Debt Collectors to our door

Don't worry about the default. Have you actually had a door collector around yet, I'd be very suprised if you had.

I used my online banking. Simply selected the direct debit concerned and hit the cancel button. However, if you have money available in your account they will take it via standing order anyway.

Thanks for that - just tried and they have taken away my on line facility - DARN !!!

Should have done this back in May - Oh well, will just have to try and claim back when things settle

    Cheers anyway x

Someone showed up today, asked for my husband, refused to say what it was about, and what company he was from so I closed the door.

He left a card with illegible handwriting for a name and a mobile number

Thats really unusual. From what I know though, I don't think they actually have any powers. Just don't let them into your home whatever you do.

This is copied of the directgov.co.uk website:-
Debt collectors aren't court officials and don't have the same powers as bailiffs. They can't enter your home or seize your possessions.

If a collector harasses you, you should contact your local council's trading standards department. If they threaten you physically, contact the police.

I know not to let them in. I was trying to get information and judging from what Directgov said no wonder he refused to divulge.

I can't read the name and the paper is blank so all I have to go by is a phone number. Will report him and take his photo if he ever comes again

    Thank you

Hi there, I have been reading this board & also the bankruptcy board for a while, and trying to decide which way to go.

Anyway, Has anyone heard of new laws coming in which would protect people who use DMP's, making it illegal for creditors to put pressure on debtors if they are using a DMP, and they would have to offer a reduced settlement figure for people who have been paying a while.

I read about it on another debt forum and wondered if it was true. Also, if this was right, would that be for people who go through CCCS/payplan, and not for DIY'ers?

There are some new regulations working the way through parliament I believe regarding people who get into difficulties, I am not sure what form it takes and don't believe it has been rubber stamped yet but I know its a step in the right direction.

I waited too long to cancel my DD's and SO's on my online banking. I was cancelling them one at a time as I set up the new one but they have made my access enquiry only. I'm worried about the SO to Council Tax as I don't want it to bounce.

Wish I'd just cancelled them all at once. I'm reorganising them all myself and have contact numbers for every one now.

Not sure what to do. Think I'm going to have to speak to the bank about it but I don't want to. It's all too new just now so I'm not used to it.

Got the welcome pack from CCCS and they have written to all my creditors to propose payments so that's a boost. I can send them money in Sept with no problem if I can sort out all the dds.
    August 08 debt £58544.84, Paid £1668, Dec 08 Total £58236.48
DMP with CCCS £417 per month - Starting 01 Sept 08
Increased to £443 per month Jan 09.

I am afraid it is going to have to just be one of things where you bite the bullet and ring them. Remember you don't need to explain what you are doing it is your right to cancel direct debits and standing orders. The only ones you could struggle on are loan ones if the loan is paid to the same company as the bank is from then all you can do is try.
