its shops as well everytime you go to pay something at the till they ask you if you want a credit card, ive thought about being mean and letting them, go through the paperwork to say oh your blacklisted for 6 years and you can say well i would have told you that if youd asked.

  • Hi,
I worked as a Saturday cashier for LloydsTSB for about three years and we were pushed into sales. I HATED doing this as I know how annoying it is, especially as it was always so busy and the queues were horrendous. I found it really hard because Im naturally quietly spoken so had to shout through the screen at the customer to say my spiel, I never managed to sell anything. For some reason male cashiers always did much better at selling. It is really pushed, there were charts up on the walls with everyones names and how many sales each person had made. I was so glad to be able to leave.
Now I find every time I go into Natwest or the Woolwich which are the two I use Im pounced upon, "When can I and OH find half an hour for our financial review" my answer is usually "never." Recently in the Woolowich I was being given the hard sell about an account which actually sounded quite good. I was in a rush however, so I asked for a leaflet with all the details on to look at when I had more time and was told "sorry, we havent got any" and that was that, the cashier obviously thought I was giving her the brush off. I decided as she had not bothered to give me the information I would take my account somewhere else.
It even happens every time I ring the telephone bank too.

I go in to pay a cheque because there wasn't any queue and I wasn't going to use the ATM to deposit it. Then it starts... "Do you have another account with us sir? Would you be interested in a £6000 loan?" I was thinking "are you mad? Can you not see the account you just pulled up was a student account? Why would a student want a 6K loan? What do you think a student would spend 6K on?"
Then on the way out I'm asked if I'm a homeowner. Come on I'm 19 and don't look any older than that, I still get asked for ID in bars, so where is this fantasy house of mine.
The bank workers need to get some common sense. (I'm only tarnishing the workers of one branch of one bank)

I have been asked similar and always offer them a time of 08:00 on a Sunday morning ... and make it clear that I have to be away by 08:30 ... noone has taken me up on it yet ... maybe they aren't that interested in selling :D

I had a current account with Bank of Scotland( now same group) so now every time I go in they want to give me such a good deal on a mortgage!!I just tell them I have a long memory. Funny they want my business now we have a bit more money.

Has anyone thought of going to Nationwide instead then? They are still mutual and therefore have no shareholders to think about, and only want to do the best for the customers in terms of interest rates etc, and they arent interested in pushing things on you. Ive always found them really nice and freindly, and actually have good rates. Just a thought anyway....

i actually work for a building society as a cashier. whilst we have to meet sales targets on a monthly basis - we are encouraged to do this through service, basically meaning that if one of our cashiers approaches you asking if you have thought about reveiwing your accounts because you could earn more interest we mean it!! we are not on commission (even our managers) and we are sick and tired of people thinking that we are lying to them - just look at the facts - you may have an acc paying 0.95% with £50k sitting there and we can offer you an acc with the same rules for 3.1% yet you think that we are being pushy- WE AREN'T - we are trying to help you!!! we know what we are talking about and have many loyal customers who come to us for advice for many different reasons and i can honestly say that we don`t just do it for targets - more often than not we deal with elderly customers who just want to know how to fill forms in etc. we are not mercenary brainwashed robots.
if a cashier is offering you a mtge, they may be on commission, but they may also genuinly want to reduce your monthly payments, so before perfecting your excuses (we have heard them all - but the best for mtge's is saying that you have jst swapped and are tied in at the moment) actually look at the facts. rant over!!

i was a homeowner at 18- so yes you could be a homeowner. if they didn`t ask you you'd be saying that you were discriminated against cos you are young!!!!
