Im getting sick of O2 offering me rubbish deal after rubbish deal when I call up retentions, so i'm looking to go elsewhere. Just wondering what the quickest and easiest way to cancel my contract is? Im not bothered about keeping my number (might actually be nice to get a new one).
Thanks in advance!

btw the reason for the query is because im away for a month on the 26th june and the contract in question needs to be sorted out by then. From the sounds of things this would be cutting it close if i requested my PAC code from O2, as they require written confirmation which they then take 72 hours to process before sending it out.0

The only way they accept cancellation is in writing.0

I have had quite a few different O2 contracts over the years and have had them cancelled by writing, email and even over the phone. I think they officially require a letter but try and call them again and firmly tell them your intentions. It might be that retentions just think you are bluffing for a better deal.
I have just got a pac for my current O2 contract and have not sent any sort of letter.0 -
hi thor,
Just out of interest, how did you manage to get the PAC code without waiting the usual 30 days? Any magic phrases I should memorise?0 -
Hi Loz,
You may have misunderstood my post. I waited until I was 30 days away from the end of my minimum 12 month contract before asking to end my contract and making the PAC request.
First I asked them how a contract could be terminated and I think you will find their reply useful:
"Hello xxxx,
Thanks for your email regarding mobile number xxxxxxxxxxxxx.
I'm sorry you're considering to cancel your contract with us.
You're eligible to give us 30 days notice for cancellation.
To cancel your contract, please email us with the following information:
your name phone number alternative contact number preferred time of contact (Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 6:00pm) order number date of contact reason for wanting to disconnect PAC (Port Authorisation Code) requested - yes/no (Please choose 'yes' if you want to keep your existing number).
A PAC code is an authorisation code to transfer your current phone number and it's valid for 30 days from the issue date.
When we've received the above information, we'll arrange for the disconnection of your account.
You can also send a written confirmation to cancel your contract to:
O2 Disconnections
PO BOX 242
Houghton Regis
LU5 5WA.
Please make sure that you include the following information in your signed letter:
your full name
full billing address
account number (mentioned on your bill)
reason for disconnection.
To discuss the cancellation of your account, please call us on 08705 860 860. We're available Monday to Friday between 08:00am and 08:00pm, Saturday and Sunday between 09:00am and 06:00pm. Calls are free of charge from an O2 Pay Monthly phone.
you'll be delighted to know that you're eligible to upgrade your contract.
I'm unable to tell you if you'll get the same deal as in the previous year. This is because only our upgrades team deal with upgrade related options. To discuss your upgrade options, please call our upgrades team on 08706 007 102. They're available Monday to Saturday between 08:00am and 08:00pm and on Sunday between 10:00am and 6:00pm. Calls are free of charge from an O2 Pay Monthly mobile phone."
So as you can see from the beginning of the quote, O2 accepts email PAC requests. You still have a week before you go so I would advise that you email them for your PAC. It took them only16 hours to send me mine so that will give you plenty ot time without having to rely on the royal mail to deliver any letters. Just remember that you have to use it within 30 days or your contract will not end and will continue as normal.0
