Hi there,

I want to set up a website for my students to be able to pool and collaborate resources. Are there any online services as such available?

Ideally I would want it to be as follows:
- I can grant a username and password to certain email addresses
- Anyone with access can upload or download but not delete or modify files on there
- Only admins (me) can delete/modify/organise
- Lots of storage spac (5gb?)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

    skydrive.live.com for the storage.
  • What about making a Sharepoint site. You would be able to set them up with logins and they would be able to download and upload documents with the right permissions.

Sounds like a case for Google Docs - take the tour and see if it suits

You'll need a script and database for the username and password for email addresses. Not all host are SQL compatable (able to run scripts or databases). Try hostgator.com. I've used them for months with many of my online sites. Hopefully you can find a cheap script that can be installed and do the username/password as programing it could be costly (try elance.com, rentacoder or getafreelancer for programers).

There are loads of free scripts to handle logging in to a website with a username and password, e.g.

  • Hi there

A free wiki such as pbwiki or wetpaint sounds exactly what you want. There is a helluva lot of information about using web techology with education out there for instance, just use Google.

Take a look here http://www.c4lpt.co.uk/recommended/top100.html 160 learning pros have voted on their best web tools.

    Good luck!

Could you elaborate on how I'd do this? Thanks

Basically I want to be able to control who has access to the files? Ideally they would apply for access and if it was an email address of one of the students then i would grant it or similar.
