Hi, I've just noticed the adverts for this Freesat.
We're in rented with no digital arial and our signal is too weak to get Freeview. The previous tenants left an old sat dish on the back of the property and I wondered if we could use this (could have been sky but no idea)?? Would we still need installation to set up the box?
Thanks

HI yes you can use the sky dish for freesat
A separate Freesat HD TV service from the BBC and ITV has recently been launched offering free HD TV via a Sky dish with 80 free digital TV channels available via the Astra satellite at 28.2E (the same orbital position as used by the Sky Digital platform - so you can use your existing Sky dish).0 -
Just not sure if it IS a Sky dish - if it isn't will it still work?
If it is then I just need to plug the box in?? Is that all??!0 -
If its the old dish bigger round one I dont think so, it isnt the dish so much its the LNB it has to be capable of receiving digital encoded signal. I could be wrong but I suspect that may be the case0

If the dish is kind of egg shape, it is almost certainly a Sky Dish, that will work fine with Freesat, as long as it is in working order of course.
You could test it with a Sky Receiver to be certain.;)0 -
It is a sideways egg shape - smaller than the old style and 'meshy' (can you tell I've never had a sat dish before! :rotfl:) I'm sure it would have been in working order until last Sept when the girls moved out.
Whats a Sky Receiver? A box? Where could I get one?0 -
is it any of these

b
I dont think a LNB is expensive sure I seen a quad lnb for about £20
SKY+ and Replacing your minidish LNB0 -
Yes the bottom one we've got.
Whats a lnb?0 -
lnb, low noise block, the unit on the end of the rod that sticks out from the dish. Its what receives the signal from the satellite. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

so I would need to change that to get Freesat?0
