    As ebay own paypal it is in their interest to have it used as widely as possible. The more companies and sites that use paypal, the more money paypal make overall and it also has the knock on effect that paypal will become more popular. If paypal becomes a standard method of payment online then there is a potential to use adverts to get paypal users to sign up for ebay as well..and increase profits even more.

    As for other auctions sites, ebay really don't have to worry too much about them as they rarely get anywhere near big enough to threaten ebay, and if they get well known then ebay just buy them anyway.
