Can't get to fixings to change toilet seat

Has anyone come across this? My daughter had a new toilet fitted last year and now the toilet seat has become loose.
Not usually a problem I know, but the fixing beneath the back of the toilet is hidden by the side of the toilet which reaches almost to the wall. The fixing can just be reached by curling fingers around the the back of the toilet, but only your finger tips touch so there is no way they can be tightened up.
The seat is now very loose and it seems the only option is to take the toilet out!!
Anyone come across this before?

Would this toilet seat have caps covering the fixings (actually on top of toilet). Our toilet seat is like this, you just rotate the little covers to reveal the easily accessible cross head screws .
Hopefully this helps0 -
At the back of the loo seat where the hinges are, are there two little grub allen screws?
Sometimes you can undo these with an allen key and the loo seat pops off.0 -
My toilet is like you describe, exept mine backs up to a cupboard type unit that hides the water tank.
My bolts are COMPLETELY inaccessible.
The only way to remove my seat is either to dimantle the cupboard or remove the toilet from the ground..
I installed mine myself and thought it was a crazy design while I was building it.
I think its a case of nice looking design over common sense design.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
Thanks for your replies everyone. I have had a closer look and I think it is just a rubbish design.
The only way to get the seat off is to access the bolts underneath and they can be touched with a fingertip only!! Let this be a warning to everyone buying a fancy new loo.0 -
There is a flexible access tool for this problem called a Doddler.

I saw that and assumed it was aimed at the DIYers? Allows for 14 to be dropped down the pan .....;)If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
