Father has one of these oldies which has ~£50 credit on. Has just stopped working and gives message - IMSI failure, switch off phone. Has the phone been disconected and is Cellnet now O2? Thanks

Does the phone have a sim card?
If so, then try the sim in another phone - it should work.0 -
Some of the old Philips phones and sims were locked to each other on Cellnet, so trying the sim in another phone *might* not work either.
If that is the case then O2 would probably send out a new sim with the same number and transfer the balance to it. I think if the above is true though you would need a different phone too.0 -
Found this http://www.mobileexpert.co.uk/mobile/forum/archive/index.php/t-1071.html looks like you have to use the phone at least once every 180 days to keep the SIM active. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

You may have lost your money as you dont appear to have used phone in specified period, hence ISMI Failure. Presumably you know the phone number.Call O2 on
01274 388 261 and explain situation, they may be able to issue you a replacement sim, depending on how long since it was terminated.PF.0 -
Dear All
Thanks for the advice. Yes, father had forgotten to use his phone and was disconnected in August. O2 have tranfered the balance to a new sim (they wanted to sell me one for £4.99) but luckily I had a spare! Just got to get a new handset with big buttons!.
