HAve you tried Boots for nappies and wipes? Their wipes are almost always BOGOF and there is usually a pound off their nappies. Also if you join their baby club you get double points on all their own brand baby goods.

I've tried Tesco jaffa cakes and Asda SmartPrice jaffas.

I much prefer the Asda ones.

I've never been a brand name person. I've always had an eye on the pennies.
  • Alas we don't have an asda nearby although they do deliver to us. I am saving for a platinum ring from the clubcard points though so I have to shop there for time being (have clubcard plus)

Think I might have a wander round the shop and really look at what I buy next time instead of sticking to my list and rushing round.

As far as wipes go, if you can get to a costco, their own brand (kirkland) wipes are the best of any I have tried. We won't use anything else now!
  • Right this week I am trying Salad Cream (light), those tesco value jaffa cakes and value custard creams

Will be back with my verdicts!

As for the toothpaste i am still unsure. Will give it the full week though like I said I would.

I'vre just found your thread through the money tips email - well done for making the spotlight with a really interesting idea!

Toothpaste - if you don't like it, don't chuck the rest out. You can use it for bathroom cleaning, honestly, I'm not kidding! It's mildly abrasive so you can use it to clean enamel or tiles. I think I heard that from Kim & Aggie, and it works.

Similarly, don't throw out shampoo that you don't like - use it as a cleaning fluid, or wash hairbrushes in it. (Flylady taught me that one).

Now I'm off to read the rest of your thread :)

I have been squirting the same amounts to keep it fair from the tests I have done so far but you are totally right. Last time I tried this I switched to cheapo washing up liquid but was a false ecomony because I needed to use much more to get the grease off things.

Thanks for your work, Shelvis. I agree that cheapo washing up liquid certainly is a false economy.

Like you, I am also prone to allergy and found that by swapping to Ecover washing up liquid (which appears more expensive initially) I could save by dispensing with marigold gloves, hand cream and also lose those itchy fingers (priceless!).:T

For a chance to win an Ecover full household clean up (I think runners-up get a free sample) try http://www.its-ecological.com/. I normally hate on-screen video games (I'm too dopey) but it's got some nice gentle ones on this site too!

Give this a try, squirt the washing up liquid on a sponge first and squeeze it.

Gives plenty of bubbles an old market trick.

I am still using my same washing up liquid but now transfer it into a value pump spray bottle I bought in Wilkinsons for 19p a bit like the sort of thing used for liquid handwash and find using this I use much less liquid than if I was using it straight out of the bottle it comes in.

I have been doing this and you are so right!! It lasts way longer. I used to give it a good old squeeze into the sink but i have put it in an old handwash bottle and now just give it one pump and its enough to do the small baby bowls and bottles (everything else goes in dihswasher - which will eventually be another of my challenges as the price of the fairy tablets is astronomical!!) Great tip and will save me money thanks!
