    It is still on topic.

Hopefully the OP will get back to us and confirm why he or she wishes the address removed. I was taking a broader view that there must be a good reason for it and with respect to credit this is usually that adverse information is recorded there, however, since there should be none there is no point having the address itself removed (as per your own case)

With regard to Experian not doing their job properly, I do not beleive they could possibly benefit from having a linked address on their server and it has been over 6 years since the applicant was associated with it, when they have a policy of dropping information over 6 years old. It makes no sense in this context.

I have no problem being told I am incorrect.

I concur, there seems little point for them to have this information.

My own reasons are that no I longer want to be associated in any way, shape or form to the addresses I lived at 8, 9, & 10 years ago. Financially this was a bad time for me, I got into a LOT of debt. I'ts more for my own gratification than anything else, it tidys up my file a bit too.

I should add that I have just 5 mins ago checked my Experian file for something else and they have removed ALL address links (38 of them) that are older than 8 years. I guess they took heed of the email I sent a couple of days back with the "employee 8-year" extract.

Sometimes I think it help's when I send my email's from my work address too given that it it end's @"national tabloid newspaper".co.uk, who knows?? :D

I bet the email address makes them jump, lol.

Just out of interest which part of our fair city are you in, I am currently in sunny Royston and trying desperately to get out of here and back home to good old Bishopbriggs, but not having much luck.

Hillhead but I'm from the Highlands originally, moved here about 3 years ago now.

I just received a reply from the same person about the linked address issue!

    Dear Mr Analyst
Thank you for your email, which I received on 15 June 2008.
I am sorry if you are not happy with my previous response and would confirm that there is no time limit on how long we retain linked addresses. This is why I informed you that we keep these indefinitely.
If there is no financial information recorded in an individuals name, we are able to delete any linked addresses over 8 years old. After checking the entries on your report, I have deleted the links with no financial information showing in your name.
I would explain that linked addresses are not in themselves financial information and are not subject to the same six-year limit as credit account information. In some circumstances these entries may be retained on our records indefinitely, as they enable lenders to obtain as full a picture of your credit history as possible. An entry may be retained on your report for more than six years if information has been recorded in your name at the address, or it provides a link to another address where financial information appears in your name.
    Kind regards

If there's no financial information after 6 years then why the hell would they want to keep it forever or even for 8 years!!

    About as clear as mud!

Bunch of muppets if you ask me, some of their policies defy belief  :p

    It sure is.

I have noticed Equifax use far more common sense, but then I am biased as I used to work for them.

    Hi All

one linked address was a mail box used for correspondence in a city i was looking for work in after i had sold my home in my home town.

another linked address was a hotel i was staying at whilst looking for work and i wrote one letter to a debtor giving the hotel address on the letter, ( i had a few months contract in that town)

so to clarify the two addresses were not my home and looking at my experian record now in 2008 it looks a bit odd to have two linked addresses from nearly 8 years ago.

tesco have replied to experian and removed the linked address, two other old debtors have not agreed to removal , though i owe no monies to them

    Hi sa1

As long as there is no adverse data that is recorded against the addresses that the CRA's state they remove after 6 years (and so can do manually if you ask) then there is nothing that will affect your creditworthiness.

If there is I would get in touch with Experian and ask if they can remove it, it does not matter if the debtor refuses to remove it, they have a rule that says 6 years after it was put on the file it must come off of the file.
